The Beast out of the Sea

13 The dragon^[a] stood on the shore of the sea. And I saw a beast coming out of the sea.^(A) It had ten horns and seven heads,^(B) with ten crowns on its horns, and on each head a blasphemous name.^(C)

³ Then another sign appeared in heaven:^(A) an enormous red dragon^(B) with seven heads^(C) and ten horns^(D) and seven crowns^(E) on its heads.

³ Then the angel carried me away in the Spirit^(A) into a wilderness.^(B) There I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet^(C) beast that was covered with blasphemous names^(D) and had seven heads and ten horns.^(E)

⁷ Now when they have finished their testimony, the beast^(A) that comes up from the Abyss^(B) will attack them,^(C) and overpower and kill them.

²³ “He gave me this explanation: ‘The fourth beast is a fourth kingdom that will appear on earth. It will be different from all the other kingdoms and will devour the whole earth, trampling it down and crushing it.^{(A) 24} The ten horns^(B) are ten kings who will come from this kingdom. After them another king will arise, different from the earlier ones; he will subdue three kings. ²⁵ He will speak against the Most High^(C) and oppress his holy people^(D) and try to change the set times^(E) and the laws. The holy people will be delivered into his hands for a time, times and half a time.^[a](F)

² Daniel said: “In my vision at night I looked, and there before me were the four winds of heaven^(A) churning up the great sea. ³ Four great beasts,^(B) each different from the others, came up out of the sea.

The King Who Exalts Himself

³⁶ “The king will do as he pleases. He will exalt and magnify himself^(A) above every god and will say unheard-of things^(B) against the God of gods.^(C) He will be successful until the time of wrath^(D) is completed, for what has been determined must take place.^(E)

⁷ “After that, in my vision^(A) at night I looked, and there before me was a fourth beast—terrifying and frightening and very powerful. It had large iron^(B) teeth; it crushed and devoured its victims and trampled^(C) underfoot whatever was left.^(D) It was different from all the former beasts, and it had ten horns.^(E)

⁸ “While I was thinking about the horns, there before me was another horn, a little^(F) one, which came up among them; and three of the first horns were uprooted before it. This horn had eyes like the eyes of a human being^(G) and a mouth that spoke boastfully.^(H)

¹⁶ The beast and the ten horns^(A) you saw will hate the prostitute.^(B) They will bring her to ruin^(C) and leave her naked;^(D) they will eat her flesh^(E) and burn her with fire.^(F)
