⁷ Then war broke out in heaven. Michael^(A) and his angels fought against the dragon,^(B) and the dragon and his angels^(C) fought back.

⁹ But even the archangel^(A) Michael,^(B) when he was disputing with the devil about the body of Moses,^(C) did not himself dare to condemn him for slander but said, “The Lord rebuke you!”^[a](D)

⁴ For if God did not spare angels when they sinned,^(A) but sent them to hell,^[a] putting them in chains of darkness^[b] to be held for judgment;^(B)

12 “At that time Michael,^(A) the great prince who protects your people, will arise. There will be a time of distress^(B) such as has not happened from the beginning of nations until then. But at that time your people—everyone whose name is found written in the book^(C)—will be delivered.^(D)

¹² For our struggle is not against flesh and blood,^(A) but against the rulers, against the authorities,^(B) against the powers^(C) of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.^(D)

² He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil, or Satan,^(A) and bound him for a thousand years.^(B)

²¹ but first I will tell you what is written in the Book of Truth.^(A) (No one supports me against them except Michael,^(B) your prince.

¹³ But the prince^(A) of the Persian kingdom resisted me twenty-one days. Then Michael,^(B) one of the chief princes, came to help me, because I was detained there with the king of Persia.

⁹ The great dragon was hurled down—that ancient serpent^(A) called the devil,^(B) or Satan,^(C) who leads the whole world astray.^(D) He was hurled to the earth,^(E) and his angels with him.
