Psalm 92:1-4

New International Version

Psalm 92^[a]

A psalm. A song. For the Sabbath day.

¹It is good to praise the Lord
    and make music^(A) to your name,^(B) O Most High,^(C)
²proclaiming your love in the morning^(D)
    and your faithfulness at night,
³to the music of the ten-stringed lyre^(E)
    and the melody of the harp.^(F)

⁴For you make me glad by your deeds, Lord;
I sing for joy^(G) at what your hands have done.^(H)

¹²The righteous will flourish^(A) like a palm tree,
    they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon;^(B)
¹³planted in the house of the Lord,
    they will flourish in the courts of our God.^(C)
¹⁴They will still bear fruit^(D) in old age,
    they will stay fresh and green,
¹⁵proclaiming, “The Lord is upright;
    he is my Rock, and there is no wickedness in him.^(E)”

Genesis 3:14-24

¹⁴So the Lord God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this,

“Cursed^(A) are you above all livestock
    and all wild animals!
You will crawl on your belly
    and you will eat dust^(B)
    all the days of your life.
¹⁵And I will put enmity
    between you and the woman,
    and between your offspring^[a]^(C) and hers;^(D)
he will crush^[b] your head,^(E)
    and you will strike his heel.”

¹⁶To the woman he said,

“I will make your pains in childbearing very severe;
with painful labor you will give birth to children.^(F)
Your desire will be for your husband,
and he will rule over you.^(G)”

¹⁷To Adam he said, “Because you listened to your wife and ate fruit from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You must not eat from it,’^(H)

“Cursed^(I) is the ground^(J) because of you;
    through painful toil^(K) you will eat food from it
    all the days of your life.^(L)
¹⁸It will produce thorns and thistles^(M) for you,
    and you will eat the plants of the field.^(N)
¹⁹By the sweat of your brow^(O)
    you will eat your food^(P)
until you return to the ground,
    since from it you were taken;
for dust you are
    and to dust you will return.”^(Q)

²⁰Adam^[c] named his wife Eve,^[d]^(R) because she would become the mother of all the living.

²¹The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them.^(S) ²²And the Lord God said, “The man has now become like one of us,^(T) knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life^(U) and eat, and live forever.” ²³So the Lord God banished him from the Garden of Eden^(V) to work the ground^(W) from which he had been taken. ²⁴After he drove the man out, he placed on the east side^[e] of the Garden of Eden^(X) cherubim^(Y) and a flaming sword^(Z) flashing back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life.^(AA)

Jesus Made Fully Human

⁵It is not to angels that he has subjected the world to come, about which we are speaking. ⁶But there is a place where someone^(A) has testified:

“What is mankind that you are mindful of them,
    a son of man that you care for him?^(B)
⁷You made them a little^[a] lower than the angels;
    you crowned them with glory and honor
⁸    and put everything under their feet.”^[b]^[c]^(C)

In putting everything under them,^[d] God left nothing that is not subject to them.^[e] Yet at present we do not see everything subject to them.^[f] ⁹But we do see Jesus, who was made lower than the angels for a little while, now crowned with glory and honor^(D) because he suffered death,^(E) so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.^(F)
