Psalm 87

Of the Sons of Korah. A psalm. A song.

¹He has founded his city on the holy mountain.^(A)
²The Lord loves the gates of Zion^(B)
more than all the other dwellings of Jacob.

³Glorious things are said of you,
    city of God:^[a]^(C)
⁴“I will record Rahab^[b]^(D) and Babylon
    among those who acknowledge me—
Philistia^(E) too, and Tyre^(F), along with Cush^[c]—
    and will say, ‘This one was born in Zion.’”^[d]^(G)
⁵Indeed, of Zion it will be said,
    “This one and that one were born in her,
    and the Most High himself will establish her.”
⁶The Lord will write in the register^(H) of the peoples:
    “This one was born in Zion.”

⁷As they make music^(I) they will sing,
“All my fountains^(J) are in you.”

Blessings for God’s People

¹⁷“Then you will know^(A) that I, the Lord your God,^(B)
dwell in Zion,^(C) my holy hill.^(D)
Jerusalem will be holy;^(E)
never again will foreigners invade her.^(F)

¹⁸“In that day the mountains will drip new wine,^(G)
    and the hills will flow with milk;^(H)
    all the ravines of Judah will run with water.^(I)
A fountain will flow out of the Lord’s house^(J)
    and will water the valley of acacias.^[a]^(K)
¹⁹But Egypt^(L) will be desolate,
    Edom^(M) a desert waste,
because of violence^(N) done to the people of Judah,
    in whose land they shed innocent blood.
²⁰Judah will be inhabited forever^(O)
    and Jerusalem through all generations.

²⁸“What do you think? There was a man who had two sons. He went to the first and said, ‘Son, go and work today in the vineyard.’^(A)

³⁰“Then the father went to the other son and said the same thing. He answered, ‘I will, sir,’ but he did not go.

³¹“Which of the two did what his father wanted?”

“The first,” they answered.

Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, the tax collectors^(B) and the prostitutes^(C) are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you. ³²For John came to you to show you the way of righteousness,^(D) and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors^(E) and the prostitutes^(F) did. And even after you saw this, you did not repent^(G) and believe him.
