Psalm 31:9-11 The Passion Translation (TPT)

O Lord, help me again! Keep showing me such mercy.
For I am in anguish, always in tears,
and I’m worn out with weeping.
I’m becoming old because of grief; my health is broken.
10 I’m exhausted! My life is spent with sorrow,
my years with sighing and sadness.
Because of all these troubles, I have no more strength.
My inner being[a] is so weak and frail.
11 My enemies say, “You are nothing!”
Even my friends and neighbors hold me in contempt!
They dread seeing me
and they look the other way when I pass by.

  1. Psalm 31:10 The Hebrew text says, “My bones grow weak.” Bones in the Bible are symbols of our inner being.

Psalm 31:9-11 New International Version (NIV)

Be merciful to me, Lord, for I am in distress;
    my eyes grow weak with sorrow,
    my soul and body with grief.
10 My life is consumed by anguish
    and my years by groaning;
my strength fails because of my affliction,[a]
    and my bones grow weak.
11 Because of all my enemies,
    I am the utter contempt of my neighbors
and an object of dread to my closest friends—
    those who see me on the street flee from me.
