But I am a worm(A) and not a man,
    scorned by everyone,(B) despised(C) by the people.
All who see me mock me;(D)
    they hurl insults,(E) shaking their heads.(F)
“He trusts in the Lord,” they say,
    “let the Lord rescue him.(G)
Let him deliver him,(H)
    since he delights(I) in him.”

Yet you brought me out of the womb;(J)
    you made me trust(K) in you, even at my mother’s breast.
10 From birth(L) I was cast on you;
    from my mother’s womb you have been my God.

11 Do not be far from me,(M)
    for trouble is near(N)
    and there is no one to help.(O)

12 Many bulls(P) surround me;(Q)
    strong bulls of Bashan(R) encircle me.
13 Roaring lions(S) that tear their prey(T)
    open their mouths wide(U) against me.
14 I am poured out like water,
    and all my bones are out of joint.(V)
My heart has turned to wax;(W)
    it has melted(X) within me.
15 My mouth[a] is dried up like a potsherd,(Y)
    and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth;(Z)
    you lay me in the dust(AA) of death.

16 Dogs(AB) surround me,
    a pack of villains encircles me;
    they pierce[b](AC) my hands and my feet.
17 All my bones are on display;
    people stare(AD) and gloat over me.(AE)
18 They divide my clothes among them
    and cast lots(AF) for my garment.(AG)
