¹⁷ The Lord is righteous^(F) in all his ways

18 The Lord is near^(H) to all who call on him,^(I)
    to all who call on him in truth.
¹⁹ He fulfills the desires^(J) of those who fear him;^(K)
    he hears their cry^(L) and saves them.^(M)
20 The Lord watches over^(N) all who love him,^(O)
    but all the wicked he will destroy.^(P)

    Let every creature^(R) praise his holy name^(S)

A wise son brings joy to his father,^(C)
    but a foolish son brings grief to his mother.

² Ill-gotten treasures have no lasting value,^(D)
    but righteousness delivers from death.^(E)

³ The Lord does not let the righteous go hungry,^(F)
    but he thwarts the craving of the wicked.^(G)

⁴ Lazy hands make for poverty,^(H)
    but diligent hands bring wealth.^(I)

⁵ He who gathers crops in summer is a prudent son,
    but he who sleeps during harvest is a disgraceful son.^(J)
