Psalm 95 New International Version

Psalm 95

¹Come,^(A) let us sing for joy^(B) to the Lord;
let us shout aloud^(C) to the Rock^(D) of our salvation.
²Let us come before him^(E) with thanksgiving^(F)
and extol him with music^(G) and song.

³For the Lord is the great God,^(H)
    the great King^(I) above all gods.^(J)
⁴In his hand are the depths of the earth,^(K)
    and the mountain peaks belong to him.
⁵The sea is his, for he made it,
    and his hands formed the dry land.^(L)

⁶Come, let us bow down^(M) in worship,^(N)
    let us kneel^(O) before the Lord our Maker;^(P)
⁷for he is our God
    and we are the people of his pasture,^(Q)
    the flock under his care.

Today, if only you would hear his voice,
⁸“Do not harden your hearts^(R) as you did at Meribah,^[a]^(S)
    as you did that day at Massah^[b] in the wilderness,^(T)
⁹where your ancestors tested^(U) me;
    they tried me, though they had seen what I did.
¹⁰For forty years^(V) I was angry with that generation;
    I said, ‘They are a people whose hearts go astray,^(W)
    and they have not known my ways.’^(X)
¹¹So I declared on oath^(Y) in my anger,
    ‘They shall never enter my rest.’”^(Z)

Prayer^(A)

⁵“And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing^(B) in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. ⁶But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father,^(C) who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. ⁷And when you pray, do not keep on babbling^(D) like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.^(E) ⁸Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need^(F) before you ask him.

⁹“This, then, is how you should pray:

“‘Our Father^(G) in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
¹⁰your kingdom^(H) come,
your will be done,^(I)
    on earth as it is in heaven.
¹¹Give us today our daily bread.^(J)
¹²And forgive us our debts,
    as we also have forgiven our debtors.^(K)
¹³And lead us not into temptation,^[a]^(L)
    but deliver us from the evil one.^[b]’^(M)

¹⁴For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.^(N) ¹⁵But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.^(O)

Further Instructions

²Devote yourselves to prayer,^(A) being watchful and thankful. ³And pray for us, too, that God may open a door^(B) for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery^(C) of Christ, for which I am in chains.^(D) ⁴Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should.
