³ For we who have believed are entering that rest, just as God^[a] has said,

though his works were finished since the foundation of the world.

²³ shall see the land that I swore to give to their ancestors; none of those who despised me shall see it.

⁵ And again in this place it says, “They shall not enter my rest.”

¹⁸ And to whom did he swear that they would not enter his rest, if not to those who were disobedient?^(A)

²⁸ “Come to me, all you who are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.^{(A) 29} Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.^(B)

⁹ for you have not yet come into the rest and the possession that the Lord your God is giving you.

The Penalty for Israel’s Rebellion

³⁴ “When the Lord heard your words, he was wrathful and swore,^{(A) 35} ‘Not one of these—not one of this evil generation—shall see the good land that I swore to give to your ancestors,

¹³ And I heard a voice from heaven saying, “Write this: Blessed are the dead who from now on die in the Lord.” “Yes,”^[a] says the Spirit, “they will rest from their labors, for their deeds follow them.”^(A)
