¹⁰ For ^(A)forty years I was ^[a]grieved with that generation,
And said, ‘It is a people who go astray in their hearts,
And they do not know My ways.’

⁹ Where your fathers tested Me, tried Me,
And saw My works forty years.
¹⁰ Therefore I was angry with that generation,
And said, ‘They always go astray in their heart,
And they have not known My ways.’

²² “How long, you ^[a]simple ones, will you love ^[b]simplicity?
For scorners delight in their scorning,
And fools hate knowledge.
²³ Turn at my rebuke;
Surely ^(A)I will pour out my spirit on you;
I will make my words known to you.
^24 (B)Because I have called and you refused,
I have stretched out my hand and no one regarded,
²⁵ Because you ^(C)disdained all my counsel,
And would have none of my rebuke,
^26 (D)I also will laugh at your calamity;
I will mock when your terror comes,
²⁷ When ^(E)your terror comes like a storm,
And your destruction comes like a whirlwind,
When distress and anguish come upon you.

¹⁷ O Lord, why have You ^(A)made us stray from Your ways,
And hardened our heart from Your fear?
Return for Your servants’ sake,
The tribes of Your inheritance.
