¹² The righteous will flourish^(A) like a palm tree,
    they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon;^(B)

⁸ They will be like a tree planted by the water
    that sends out its roots by the stream.^(A)
It does not fear when heat comes;
    its leaves are always green.
It has no worries in a year of drought^(B)
    and never fails to bear fruit.”^(C)

¹⁶ The trees of the Lord^(A) are well watered,
    the cedars of Lebanon^(B) that he planted.

⁸ But I am like an olive tree^(A)
    flourishing in the house of God;
I trust^(B) in God’s unfailing love
    for ever and ever.

⁵ I will be like the dew^(A) to Israel;
    he will blossom like a lily.^(B)
Like a cedar of Lebanon^(C)
    he will send down his roots;^(D)
6     his young shoots will grow.
His splendor will be like an olive tree,^(E)
    his fragrance like a cedar of Lebanon.^(F)

⁶ “Like valleys they spread out,
    like gardens beside a river,^(A)
like aloes^(B) planted by the Lord,
    like cedars beside the waters.^(C)

⁹ “Yet I destroyed the Amorites^(A) before them,
    though they were tall^(B) as the cedars
    and strong as the oaks.^(C)
I destroyed their fruit above
    and their roots^(D) below.

²² No longer will they build houses and others live in them,^(A)
    or plant and others eat.
For as the days of a tree,^(B)
    so will be the days^(C) of my people;
my chosen^(D) ones will long enjoy
    the work of their hands.
