⁹ “And you, my son Solomon, acknowledge the God of your father, and serve him with wholehearted devotion^(A) and with a willing mind, for the Lord searches every heart^(B) and understands every desire and every thought. If you seek him,^(C) he will be found by you; but if you forsake^(D) him, he will reject^(E) you forever.

⁶ Both of them were righteous in the sight of God, observing all the Lord’s commands and decrees blamelessly.^(A)

¹⁹ I am the Lord your God;^(A) follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.^(B)

He will not die for his father’s sin; he will surely live.

¹³ The Lord said, “It is because they have forsaken my law, which I set before them; they have not obeyed me or followed my law.^{(A) 14} Instead, they have followed^(B) the stubbornness of their hearts;^(C) they have followed the Baals, as their ancestors taught them.” ¹⁵ Therefore this is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: “See, I will make this people eat bitter food^(D) and drink poisoned water.^{(E) 16} I will scatter them among nations^(F) that neither they nor their ancestors have known,^(G) and I will pursue them with the sword^(H) until I have made an end of them.”^(I)
