11 And I will multiply on you (A)man and beast, and (B)they shall multiply and be fruitful. And I will cause you to be inhabited as in (C)your former times, and (D)will do more good to you than ever before. (E)Then you will know that I am the Lord. 12 I will let people walk on you, even my people Israel. (F)And they shall possess you, and you shall be their inheritance, and you shall no longer (G)bereave them of children. 13 Thus says the Lord God: Because they say to you, (H)‘You devour people, and you bereave your nation of children,’ 14 therefore you shall no longer devour people and no longer bereave your nation of children, declares the Lord God. 15 And I will not let you hear anymore (I)the reproach of the nations, and you shall no longer bear the disgrace of the peoples and no longer cause your nation to stumble, declares the Lord God.”

The Lord's Concern for His Holy Name

16 The word of the Lord came to me: 17 (J)“Son of man, when the house of Israel lived in their own land, (K)they defiled it by their ways and their deeds. Their ways before me were (L)like the uncleanness of a woman in her menstrual impurity. 18 So (M)I poured out my wrath upon them (N)for the blood that they had shed in the land, for the idols (O)with which they had defiled it. 19 (P)I scattered them among the nations, and they were dispersed through the countries. (Q)In accordance with their ways and their deeds I judged them. 20 But when they came to the nations, wherever they came, (R)they profaned my holy name, in that people said of them, ‘These are the people of the Lord, and yet they had to go out of his land.’ 21 But I had concern (S)for my holy name, which the house of Israel had profaned among the nations to which they came.

I Will Put My Spirit Within You

22 “Therefore say to the house of Israel, Thus says the Lord God: (T)It is not for your sake, O house of Israel, that I am about to act, but for the sake of my holy name, (U)which you have profaned among the nations to which you came. 23 (V)And I will vindicate the holiness of my great name, which has been profaned among the nations, and which you have profaned among them. (W)And the nations will know that I am the Lord, declares the Lord God, when through you I vindicate my holiness before their eyes. 24 (X)I will take you (Y)from the nations and gather you from all the countries and (Z)bring you into your own land. 25 (AA)I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean from (AB)all your uncleannesses, and (AC)from all your idols (AD)I will cleanse you. 26 And I will give you (AE)a new heart, and (AF)a new spirit I will put within you. (AG)And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. 27 (AH)And I will put my Spirit within you, (AI)and cause you to walk in my statutes and (AJ)be careful to obey my rules.[a] 28 (AK)You shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers, and (AL)you shall be my people, and I will be your God. 29 And (AM)I will deliver you from all your uncleannesses. And (AN)I will summon the grain and make it abundant and (AO)lay no famine upon you. 30 (AP)I will make the fruit of the tree and the increase of the field abundant, (AQ)that you may never again suffer the disgrace of famine among the nations. 31 Then (AR)you will remember your evil ways, and your deeds that were not good, and you will loathe yourselves for your iniquities and your abominations. 32 (AS)It is not for your sake that I will act, declares the Lord God; let that be known to you. Be ashamed and confounded for your ways, O house of Israel.

33 “Thus says the Lord God: On the day that (AT)I cleanse you from all your iniquities, (AU)I will cause the cities to be inhabited, and the waste places shall be rebuilt. 34 And the land that was desolate shall be tilled, instead of being the desolation that it was in the sight of all who passed by. 35 And they will say, ‘This land that was desolate has become like (AV)the garden of Eden, and the waste and desolate and ruined cities are now fortified and inhabited.’ 36 Then (AW)the nations that are left all around you shall know that I am the Lord; I have rebuilt the ruined places and (AX)replanted that which was desolate. (AY)I am the Lord; I have spoken, and I will do it.

37 “Thus says the Lord God: This also (AZ)I will let the house of Israel ask me to do for them: (BA)to increase their people like (BB)a flock. 38 Like the flock for sacrifices,[b] (BC)like the flock at Jerusalem during her appointed feasts, so (BD)shall the waste cities be filled with flocks of people. (BE)Then they will know that I am the Lord.”

10 And (A)he carried me away in the Spirit to (B)a great, high mountain, and showed me the holy city Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God, 11 (C)having the glory of God, (D)its radiance (E)like a most rare jewel, like a jasper, clear as crystal. 12 It had a great, high wall, (F)with twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and on the gates the names of the twelve tribes of the sons of Israel were inscribed— 13 on the east three gates, on the north three gates, on the south three gates, and on the west three gates. 14 And the wall of the city had twelve (G)foundations, and (H)on them were the twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.

15 And the one who spoke with me (I)had a measuring rod of gold to measure the city and its gates and walls. 16 The city lies foursquare, its length the same as its width. And he measured the city with his rod, 12,000 stadia.[a] Its length and width and height are equal. 17 He also measured its wall, 144 cubits[b] by (J)human measurement, which is also (K)an angel's measurement. 18 The wall was built of (L)jasper, while the city was pure gold, like (M)clear glass. 19 (N)The foundations of the wall of the city were adorned with every kind of jewel. The first was jasper, the second sapphire, the third agate, the fourth emerald, 20 the fifth onyx, the sixth carnelian, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, the twelfth amethyst. 21 And the twelve gates were twelve pearls, each of the gates made of a single pearl, and (O)the street of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass.

22 And (P)I saw no temple in the city, for its temple is the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb. 23 And the city (Q)has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for (R)the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb. 24 By its light (S)will the nations walk, and the kings of the earth (T)will bring their glory into it, 25 and (U)its gates will never be shut by day—and (V)there will be no night there. 26 They will bring into it the glory and the honor of the nations. 27 But (W)nothing unclean will ever enter it, nor anyone who does what is detestable or false, but only those who are written in the Lamb's (X)book of life.

to grant to those who mourn in Zion—
    (A)to give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes,
(B)the oil of gladness instead of mourning,
    the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit;
(C)that they may be called oaks of righteousness,
    the planting of the Lord, (D)that he may be glorified.[a]
(E)They shall build up the ancient ruins;
    they shall raise up the former devastations;
they shall repair the ruined cities,
    the devastations of many generations.

(F)Strangers shall stand and tend your flocks;
    foreigners shall be your plowmen and vinedressers;
(G)but you shall be called the priests of the Lord;
    they shall speak of you as the ministers of our God;
(H)you shall eat the wealth of the nations,
    and in their glory you shall boast.
(I)Instead of your shame there shall be a double portion;
    instead of dishonor they shall rejoice in their lot;
therefore in their land they shall possess a double portion;
    they shall have everlasting joy.

(J)For I the Lord love justice;
    I hate robbery and wrong;[b]
(K)I will faithfully give them their recompense,
    (L)and I will make an everlasting covenant with them.
Their offspring shall be known among the nations,
    and their descendants in the midst of the peoples;
all who see them shall acknowledge them,
    that they are an offspring the Lord has blessed.

10 (M)I will greatly rejoice in the Lord;
    my soul shall exult in my God,
(N)for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation;
    he has covered me with the robe of righteousness,
as a bridegroom decks himself (O)like a priest with a beautiful headdress,
    (P)and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
11 For as the earth brings forth its sprouts,
    and as a garden causes what is sown in it to sprout up,
so the Lord God will cause (Q)righteousness and praise
    to sprout up before all the nations.

Zion's Coming Salvation

62 (R)For Zion's sake I will not keep silent,
    and for Jerusalem's sake I will not be quiet,
(S)until her righteousness goes forth as brightness,
    and her salvation as a burning torch.
(T)The nations shall see your righteousness,
    and all the kings your glory,
(U)and you shall be called by a new name
    that the mouth of the Lord will give.
You shall be (V)a crown of beauty in the hand of the Lord,
    and a royal diadem in the hand of your God.
(W)You shall no more be termed (X)Forsaken,[c]
    and your land shall no more be termed Desolate,[d]
(Y)but you shall be called (Z)My Delight Is in Her,[e]
    and your land Married;[f]
for the Lord delights in you,
    and your land shall be married.
For as a young man marries a young woman,
    so (AA)shall your sons marry you,
and as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride,
    so (AB)shall your God rejoice over you.

On your walls, O Jerusalem,
    I have set (AC)watchmen;
all the day and all the night
    they shall never be silent.
You who put the Lord in remembrance,
    take no rest,
and give him no rest
    until he establishes Jerusalem
    and makes it (AD)a praise in the earth.
The Lord has sworn (AE)by his right hand
    and by his mighty arm:
“I will not again give (AF)your grain
    to be food for your enemies,
(AG)and foreigners shall not drink your wine
    for which you have labored;
but (AH)those who garner it shall eat it
    and praise the Lord,
and (AI)those who gather it shall drink it
    in the courts of my sanctuary.”[g]

10 Go through, go through the gates;
    (AJ)prepare the way for the people;
(AK)build up, build up the highway;
    clear it of stones;
    (AL)lift up a signal over the peoples.
11 Behold, the Lord has proclaimed
    to the end of the earth:
(AM)Say to the daughter of Zion,
    (AN)“Behold, your salvation comes;
behold, his reward is with him,
    and his recompense before him.”
12 (AO)And they shall be called The Holy People,
    The Redeemed of the Lord;
(AP)and you shall be called Sought Out,
    A City Not Forsaken.

The Future Glory of Israel

60 (E)Arise, shine, for your light has come,
    and (F)the glory of the Lord has risen upon you.
For behold, darkness shall cover the earth,
    and thick darkness the peoples;
but the Lord will arise upon you,
    and his glory will be seen upon you.
(G)And nations shall come to your light,
    and kings to the brightness of your rising.

(H)Lift up your eyes all around, and see;
    they all gather together, they come to you;
(I)your sons shall come from afar,
    and your daughters shall be carried on the hip.
Then you shall see and (J)be radiant;
    your heart shall thrill and exult,[a]
because the abundance of the sea shall be turned to you,
    (K)the wealth of the nations shall come to you.
A multitude of camels shall cover you,
    the young camels of (L)Midian and (M)Ephah;
    all those from (N)Sheba shall come.
(O)They shall bring gold and frankincense,
    and shall bring good news, the praises of the Lord.
All the flocks of (P)Kedar shall be gathered to you;
    the rams of (Q)Nebaioth shall minister to you;
(R)they shall come up with acceptance on my altar,
    (S)and I will beautify my beautiful house.

Who are these that fly like a cloud,
    and (T)like doves to their windows?
For (U)the coastlands shall hope for me,
    (V)the ships of Tarshish first,
(W)to bring your children from afar,
    their silver and gold with them,
for the name of the Lord your God,
    and for the Holy One of Israel,
    because (X)he has made you beautiful.

10 (Y)Foreigners shall build up your walls,
    and (Z)their kings shall minister to you;
for in my wrath I struck you,
    but in my favor I have had mercy on you.
11 (AA)Your gates shall be open continually;
    day and night they shall not be shut,
(AB)that people may bring to you the wealth of the nations,
    with their kings led in procession.
12 (AC)For the nation and kingdom
    that will not serve you shall perish;
    those nations shall be utterly laid waste.
13 (AD)The glory of Lebanon shall come to you,
    the cypress, the plane, and (AE)the pine,
to beautify the place of my sanctuary,
    and I will make the place of my feet glorious.
14 (AF)The sons of those who afflicted you
    shall come bending low to you,
(AG)and all who despised you
    shall bow down at your feet;
(AH)they shall call you the City of the Lord,
    the Zion of the Holy One of Israel.

15 (AI)Whereas you have been forsaken and hated,
    with no one passing through,
(AJ)I will make you majestic forever,
    a joy from age to age.
16 (AK)You shall suck the milk of nations;
    you shall nurse at the breast of kings;
and you shall know that (AL)I, the Lord, am your Savior
    and your Redeemer, (AM)the Mighty One of Jacob.

17 Instead of bronze I will bring gold,
    and instead of iron I will bring silver;
instead of wood, bronze,
    instead of stones, iron.
I will make your overseers peace
    (AN)and your taskmasters righteousness.
18 (AO)Violence shall no more be heard in your land,
    devastation or destruction within your borders;
(AP)you shall call your walls Salvation,
    and your gates Praise.

19 (AQ)The sun shall be no more
    your light by day,
nor for brightness shall the moon
    give you light;[b]
but the Lord will be your everlasting light,
    and your God will be your glory.[c]
20 Your sun shall no more go down,
    nor your moon withdraw itself;
for the Lord will be your everlasting light,
    and (AR)your days of mourning shall be ended.
21 (AS)Your people shall all be righteous;
    (AT)they shall possess the land forever,
(AU)the branch of my planting, the work of my hands,
    that I might be glorified.[d]

Vision of the New Temple

40 (A)In the twenty-fifth year (B)of our exile, at the beginning of the year, on the tenth day of the month, (C)in the fourteenth year after the city was struck down, on that very day, (D)the hand of the Lord was upon me, and he brought me to the city.[a] In (E)visions of God he brought me to the land of Israel, and set me down on (F)a very high mountain, on which was a structure like a city to the south. When he brought me there, behold, there was (G)a man whose appearance was (H)like bronze, with (I)a linen cord and (J)a measuring reed in his hand. And he was standing in the gateway. And the man said to me, (K)“Son of man, (L)look with your eyes, and (M)hear with your ears, and set your heart upon all that I shall show you, for you were brought here in order that I might show it to you. (N)Declare all that you see to the house of Israel.”

The East Gate to the Outer Court

And behold, there was (O)a wall all around the outside of the temple area, and the length of the measuring reed in the man's hand was six long cubits, (P)each being a cubit and a handbreadth[b] in length. So he measured the thickness of the wall, one reed; and the height, one reed. Then he went into (Q)the gateway facing east, (R)going up its steps, and measured the threshold of the gate, one reed deep.[c] And (S)the side rooms, one reed long and one reed broad; and the space between the side rooms, five cubits; and the threshold of the gate by the vestibule of the gate at the inner end, one reed. Then he measured the vestibule of the gateway, on the inside, one reed. Then he measured the vestibule of the gateway, eight cubits; (T)and its jambs, two cubits; and the vestibule of the gate was at the inner end. 10 And there were three side rooms on either side of the east gate. (U)The three were of the same size, and the jambs on either side were of the same size. 11 Then he measured the width of the opening of the gateway, ten cubits; and the length of the gateway, thirteen cubits. 12 There was a barrier before the side rooms, one cubit on either side. And the side rooms were six cubits on either side. 13 Then he measured the gate from the ceiling of the one side room to the ceiling of the other, a breadth of twenty-five cubits; the openings faced each other. 14 He measured also (V)the vestibule, sixty cubits. And around the vestibule of the gateway was the court.[d] 15 From the front of the gate at the entrance to the front of the inner vestibule of the gate was fifty cubits. 16 And the gateway had (W)windows all around, narrowing inwards toward the side rooms and toward their (X)jambs, and likewise the vestibule had windows all around inside, and on the jambs were (Y)palm trees.

The Outer Court

17 Then he brought me into (Z)the outer court. And behold, there were (AA)chambers and a (AB)pavement, all around the court. (AC)Thirty chambers faced the pavement. 18 And the pavement ran along the side of the gates, corresponding to the length of the gates. This was the lower pavement. 19 Then he measured the distance from the inner front of the lower gate to the outer front of the inner court,[e] a hundred cubits on the east side and on the north side.[f]

The North Gate

20 As for (AD)the gate that faced toward the north, belonging to (AE)the outer court, he measured its length and its breadth. 21 Its (AF)side rooms, three on either side, and its jambs and its vestibule were of the same size as those of (AG)the first gate. Its length was (AH)fifty cubits, and its breadth (AI)twenty-five cubits. 22 And (AJ)its windows, its vestibule, and (AK)its palm trees were of the same size as those of the gate that faced toward the east. And by seven steps (AL)people would go up to it, and find its vestibule before them. 23 And opposite the gate on the north, as on the east, was a gate to (AM)the inner court. And (AN)he measured from gate to gate, a hundred cubits.

The South Gate

24 And he led me toward the south, and behold, there was a gate on the south. And (AO)he measured its jambs and its vestibule; they had the same size as the others. 25 Both it and its vestibule (AP)had windows all around, like the windows of the others. Its length was fifty cubits, and its breadth twenty-five cubits. 26 And there were seven steps leading up to it, and its vestibule was before them, and it had (AQ)palm trees on its jambs, one on either side. 27 And there was a gate on the south of (AR)the inner court. And he measured from gate to gate toward the south, a hundred cubits.

The Inner Court

28 Then he brought me to (AS)the inner court through the south gate, and (AT)he measured the south gate. It was of the same size as the others. 29 Its (AU)side rooms, its jambs, and its vestibule were of the same size as the others, and both it and its vestibule (AV)had windows all around. (AW)Its length was fifty cubits, and its breadth twenty-five cubits. 30 And there were vestibules all around, twenty-five cubits long and five cubits broad. 31 Its vestibule faced the outer court, and (AX)palm trees were on its jambs, and (AY)its stairway had eight steps.

32 Then he brought me to the inner court on the east side, and (AZ)he measured the gate. It was of the same size as the others. 33 Its side rooms, its jambs, and its vestibule were of the same size as the others, and both it and its vestibule had windows all around. Its length was fifty cubits, and its breadth twenty-five cubits. 34 (BA)Its vestibule faced the outer court, and it had palm trees on its jambs, on either side, and its stairway had eight steps.

35 Then he brought me to (BB)the north gate, and (BC)he measured it. It had the same size as the others. 36 Its side rooms, its jambs, and its vestibule were of the same size as the others,[g] and it had windows all around. Its length was fifty cubits, and its breadth twenty-five cubits. 37 Its vestibule[h] faced the outer court, and it had palm trees on its jambs, on either side, and its stairway had eight steps.

38 There was (BD)a chamber with its door in the vestibule of the gate,[i] (BE)where the burnt offering was to be washed. 39 And in the vestibule of the gate were two (BF)tables on either side, on which the (BG)burnt offering and the (BH)sin offering and the (BI)guilt offering were to be slaughtered. 40 And off to the side, on the outside as one goes up to the entrance of the north gate, were two tables; and off to the other side of the vestibule of the gate were two tables. 41 (BJ)Four tables were on either side of the gate, eight tables, (BK)on which to slaughter. 42 And there were four tables (BL)of hewn stone for the burnt offering, a cubit and a half long, and a cubit and a half broad, and one cubit high, on which the instruments were to be laid with which the (BM)burnt offerings and the sacrifices were slaughtered. 43 And hooks,[j] a handbreadth long, were fastened all around within. And on the tables the flesh of the offering was to be laid.

Chambers for the Priests

44 On the outside of the inner gateway there were two (BN)chambers[k] in the (BO)inner court, one[l] at the side of the north gate facing south, the other at the side of the south[m] gate facing north. 45 And he said to me, “This chamber that faces south is for the priests (BP)who have charge of the temple, 46 and the chamber that faces north is for the priests (BQ)who have charge of the altar. These are (BR)the sons of Zadok, who alone[n] among the sons of Levi may come (BS)near to the Lord to minister to him.” 47 And he measured the court, (BT)a hundred cubits long and (BU)a hundred cubits broad, a square. And (BV)the altar was in front of the temple.

The Vestibule of the Temple

48 Then he brought me to (BW)the vestibule of the temple and measured the (BX)jambs of the vestibule, five cubits on either side. And the breadth of the gate was fourteen cubits, and the sidewalls of the gate[o] were three cubits on either side. 49 (BY)The length of the vestibule was twenty cubits, and the breadth twelve[p] cubits, and people would go up to it by ten steps.[q] And there were pillars beside the jambs, one on either side.
