²⁴ During the last watch of the night the Lord looked down from the pillar of fire and cloud^(A) at the Egyptian army and threw it into confusion.^(B)

³⁵ Moses could not enter the tent of meeting because the cloud had settled on it, and the glory^(A) of the Lord filled the tabernacle.^(B)

³⁶ In all the travels of the Israelites, whenever the cloud lifted from above the tabernacle, they would set out;^{(C) 37} but if the cloud did not lift, they did not set out—until the day it lifted. ³⁸ So the cloud^(D) of the Lord was over the tabernacle by day, and fire was in the cloud by night, in the sight of all the Israelites during all their travels.

²¹ By day the Lord went ahead^(A) of them in a pillar of cloud^(B) to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so that they could travel by day or night. ²² Neither the pillar of cloud by day nor the pillar of fire by night left^(C) its place in front of the people.
