⁴ When their spirit departs, they return to the ground;^(A)
    on that very day their plans come to nothing.^(B)

⁷ and the dust returns^(A) to the ground it came from,
    and the spirit returns to God^(B) who gave it.^(C)

²⁹ When you hide your face,^(A)
    they are terrified;
when you take away their breath,
    they die and return to the dust.^(B)

¹⁰ The Lord foils^(A) the plans^(B) of the nations;^(C)
    he thwarts the purposes of the peoples.

¹⁹ By the sweat of your brow^(A)
    you will eat your food^(B)
until you return to the ground,
    since from it you were taken;
for dust you are
    and to dust you will return.”^(C)

¹¹ My days have passed,^(A) my plans are shattered.
    Yet the desires of my heart^(B)

²⁰ The Lord’s anointed,^(A) our very life breath,
    was caught in their traps.^(B)
We thought that under his shadow^(C)
    we would live among the nations.
