¹⁴ For He ^[a]knows our frame;
He remembers that we are dust.

^7 (A)Then the dust will return to the earth as it was,
^(B)And the spirit will return to God ^(C)who gave it.

⁹ Remember, I pray, ^(A)that You have made me like clay.
And will You turn me into dust again?

^38 (A)But He, being full of ^(B)compassion, forgave their iniquity,
And did not destroy them.
Yes, many a time ^(C)He turned His anger away,
And ^(D)did not stir up all His wrath;
³⁹ For ^(E)He remembered ^(F)that they were but flesh,
^(G)A breath that passes away and does not come again.

⁴⁷ Remember how short my time ^(A)is;
For what ^(B)futility have You created all the children of men?

^19 (A)In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread
Till you return to the ground,
For out of it you were taken;
^(B)For dust you are,
And ^(C)to dust you shall return.”

²¹ Why then do You not pardon my transgression,
And take away my iniquity?
For now I will lie down in the dust,
And You will seek me diligently,
But I will no longer be.”

⁵ My flesh is ^(A)caked with worms and dust,
My skin is cracked and breaks out afresh.

¹⁶ Surely you have things turned around!
Shall the potter be esteemed as the clay;
For shall the ^(A)thing made say of him who made it,
“He did not make me”?
Or shall the thing formed say of him who formed it,
“He has no understanding”?
