¹⁴ For he knows our frame;^[a]
    he ^(A)remembers that we are dust.

⁹ Remember that you have made me like ^(A)clay;
    and will you return me to the ^(B)dust?

³⁸ Yet he, being ^(A)compassionate,
    ^(B)atoned for their iniquity
    and did not destroy them;
he restrained his anger often
    and did not stir up all his wrath.
³⁹ He ^(C)remembered that they were but ^(D)flesh,
    ^(E)a wind that passes and comes not again.

^47 (A)Remember ^(B)how short my ^(C)time is!
    For what vanity you have created all the children of man!

¹⁹ By the sweat of your face
    you shall eat bread,
till you return to the ground,
    for out of it you were taken;
^(A)for you are dust,
    and ^(B)to dust you shall return.”

²¹ Why do you not pardon my transgression
    and take away my iniquity?
For now I shall lie in ^(A)the earth;
    you will ^(B)seek me, ^(C)but I shall not be.”

⁵ My flesh is clothed with ^(A)worms and ^(B)dirt;
    my skin hardens, then ^(C)breaks out afresh.
⁶ My days are ^(D)swifter than ^(E)a weaver's shuttle
    and come to their end without hope.

^16 (A)You turn things upside down!
Shall the potter be regarded as the clay,
that the thing made should say of its maker,
    “He did not make me”;
or the thing formed say of him who formed it,
    “He has no understanding”?
