⁸ He sits in ambush in the villages;
    in ^(A)hiding places he murders the innocent.
His eyes stealthily watch for the helpless;

¹⁴ You pierced with his own arrows the heads of his warriors,
    who came like a whirlwind to scatter me,
    rejoicing as if to devour the poor in secret.

¹⁷ But you have eyes and heart
    only for your dishonest gain,
^(A)for shedding innocent blood,
    and for practicing oppression and violence.”

¹¹ If they say, “Come with us, ^(A)let us lie in wait for blood;
    ^(B)let us ambush the innocent without reason;
¹² like Sheol let us ^(C)swallow them alive,
    and whole, like ^(D)those who go down to the pit;

⁶ They kill ^(A)the widow and the sojourner,
    and murder ^(B)the fatherless;

¹¹ They have now surrounded our ^(A)steps;
    they set their eyes to ^(B)cast us to the ground.
