Proverbs 27:13

¹³Take his garment, for he gives surety to a stranger,
and to an adulteress^[a]—so take his pledge.

New Living Translation

¹³Get security from someone who guarantees a stranger’s debt.
Get a deposit if he does it for foreigners.^[a]

27:13 As in Greek and Latin versions (see also 20:16); Hebrew reads for a promiscuous woman.

¹⁸He who tends a fig tree will eat its fruit,
and he who guards his master^[a] will be honored.

¹⁸As workers who tend a fig tree are allowed to eat the fruit,
so workers who protect their employer’s interests will be rewarded.

²⁰Sheol^[a] and Abaddon^[b] will not be satisfied,
and the eyes of a person will not be satisfied either.

Proverbs 27:20 A term for the place where the dead reside, i.e., the Underworld
Proverbs 27:20 Poetic synonym for “Sheol.” Only mentioned in the ot in relation to Sheol, the grave, or death.

²⁰Just as Death and Destruction^[a] are never satisfied,
so human desire is never satisfied.
