²¹My son, fear thou the Lord and the king: and meddle not with them that are given to change:

New International Version

²¹Fear the Lord and the king,^(A) my son,
and do not join with rebellious officials,

⁷Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour.

⁷Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes;^(A) if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.
