¹⁴ The human spirit can endure in sickness,
    but a crushed spirit who can bear?^(A)

²⁰ Like one who takes away a garment on a cold day,
    or like vinegar poured on a wound,
    is one who sings songs to a heavy heart.

¹¹ Be wise, my son, and bring joy to my heart;^(A)
    then I can answer anyone who treats me with contempt.^(B)

⁶ Evildoers are snared by their own sin,^(A)
    but the righteous shout for joy and are glad.
