22 富よりも名誉を大事にしなさい。
金や銀で名声は買えません。
2 金持ちも貧しい人も、神の前では同じです。
すべての人を主が造ったからです。
3 注意深い人は先まで見通しを立て、
失敗しないように準備します。
考えの足りない者はむやみやたらに進み、
あとで苦しみます。
4 謙遜で主を敬う人は、富も名誉も長寿も与えられます。
5 神の教えに背く者の道には、
危険な罠が待ち受けています。
自分を大切にする人は、決してそこに近寄りません。
6 子どもの時に正しい生き方を教えておけば、
年をとってからも変わりません。
7 貧しい人が金持ちに押さえつけられるように、
金を借りる者は貸してくれた人の奴隷になります。
8 悪い支配者は必ず災いに会い、権力を失います。
9 親切な人は貧しい人に食べ物を分けて喜ばれます。
10 人をさげすむ者を追い出せば、
みんなうちとけて、争いも口げんかもなくなります。
11 きよい心を愛し、良いことを語る人は、
王のほうから友になってくれます。
12 主は正しい人を守り、悪者の計画を葬り去ります。
13 怠け者は「仕事になんかとても行けない。
外に出たらライオンに食い殺されるかもしれない」と
言いわけをします。
14 売春婦は危険な罠、主にのろわれた者は、
その罠に簡単に引っかかります。
15 若者は反抗心でいっぱいですが、
正しく罰すれば素直になります。
16 貧しい人からせしめたり、
金持ちにわいろを贈ったりして財産を作っても、
結局は貧しくなります。
知恵のことば（１）
17-19 主を信じて任せなさい。
知恵のことばを聞いて忘れずに守りなさい。
そうすれば、自分の益になるばかりでなく、
人にも教えることができるようになります。
20-21 私は間違ったことを言ったことはないから、
私の言うことを信じて、そのとおり人にも教えなさい。
22-23 貧しい人や病人のものを横取りしてはいけません。
神が見ています。
そんなことをする者は必ず罰せられます。
24-25 すぐに腹を立てる愚か者には
近づかないようにしなさい。
安易に近寄ると罠に陥ります。
26-27 手もとに余分な金もないのに、
人の保証人になってはいけません。
他人の借金のかたに、
寝具まで
取り上げられてしまいます。
28 昔からある境界線を勝手に変えるのは、
どろぼうと同じことです。
29 まじめに良い仕事をする人は、必ず成功します。
23 1-3 金持ちといっしょに食事するときは、
どんなにごちそうが並んでいても、
満腹するまで食べてはいけません。
彼らはあなたを買収しようとしているからです。
そんな所に招待されても、良いことは何もありません。
4-5 金持ちになろうとあくせくするのは時間のむだです。
そうやってもうけても、
札束にはすぐに羽が生えて飛んで行くからです。
6-8 悪者とつき合ってはいけません。
気に入られたいとか、贈り物をもらいたいとか
思ってはいけません。
いかにも親切そうに見せかけて、
ほんとうはあなたを利用しているのです。
彼らのごちそうは、食べると気分が悪くなり、
吐き出してしまいます。
礼を言ったことさえばからしくなります。
9 忠告に逆らう者に言い聞かせてもむだです。
どんなにためになることを言っても、
顔をそむけるだけです。
10-11 先祖代々の地境を勝手に変えて、
みなしごの土地を横取りしてはいけません。
彼らには神がついているからです。
12 耳の痛いことばも喜んで聞き、
ためになることはどんどん取り入れなさい。
13-14 子どもはきびしく育てなさい。
むちで打っても死にはしませんが、
甘やかすと、やがて地獄に落ちることになります。
15-16 わが子よ。あなたが知恵のある人間に
なってくれたら、どんなにうれしいでしょう。
私の胸は、あなたの思慮深いひと言ひと言に
おどります。
17-18 将来は希望にあふれているのだから、
悪人をうらやまず、いつも主を恐れて生活しなさい。
19-21 わが子よ。知恵を身につけ、
神を信じる道をまっすぐに進みなさい。
大酒飲みや大食いとつき合ってはいけません。
そんなことをしていると貧しくなるばかりです。
怠けぐせがつくと、ぼろをまとうようになります。
22 父親の忠告を聞き、経験を積んだ母親を敬いなさい。
23 どんな犠牲をはらっても、
ほんとうのことを知るよう努めなさい。
物事を正しく判断できる力を
しっかりと身につけるのです。
24-25 神を恐れる人の父親は幸せ者、
知恵のある子は父親の誇りです。
これ以上の親孝行はありません。
26-28 わが子よ。悪い女に近寄ってはいけません。
彼女は狭くて深い墓穴のようにぽっかり口を開けて、
あわれな犠牲者が落ちるのを待っています。
まるで強盗のように待ち伏せて、
男たちに妻を裏切らせるのです。
29-30 悩みと悲しみに
争いばかりしているのはだれでしょう。
血走った目をし、生傷の絶えないのはだれでしょう。
それは、飲み屋に入り浸って
酒ばかり飲んでいる者です。
31 ぶどう酒の輝きと、魅力的な味に
だまされてはいけません。
32 ぶどう酒はあとで、
毒蛇やまむしのようにかみつくからです。
33 酔っ払うと、ものがまともに見えず、
何を言っているかわからなくなり、
普通のときなら恥ずかしくて言えないことを、
はてしなくしゃべります。
34 まっすぐに歩くこともできず、
しけに会って揺れるマストにしがみつく
船乗りのように、ふらふらとよろめくのです。
35 そして、「なぐられたなんて、ちっとも気がつかなかった。もっと飲みたいものだ」
と言います。
24 神を信じない人々をうらやんではいけません。
仲間になろうと思ってもいけません。
2 彼らは毎日毎日、人に乱暴し、
だますことに明け暮れているのです。
3-4 事業を始めるときは、
よく考えてきちんと計画を立て、
しっかり基礎を固めなさい。
こうして実際をしっかり見ながら進めば、
成功は間違いなしです。
5 知恵のある人は力のある人より強く、
知恵は力より優れています。
6 戦いに出かけるときは、
知恵のある人の意見を聞いてからにしなさい。
助言する人が大ぜいいれば安心です。
7 神に背く者には、知恵は高すぎて買えません。
だから、人前で意見を言わせてもらえません。
8 悪いことを企むのも、それを実行するのも、
同じように悪いことです。
9 神に背く者は悪い計画ばかり立て、
人をさげすむ者は世界中の人にきらわれます。
10 逆境のとき、苦しみに耐えられない者は弱い者です。
11-12 無実の罪で死刑を宣告された人を助けなさい。
その人が殺されるのを、
黙って眺めていてはいけません。
「全く知らなかった」ととぼけても、
神の目はごまかせません。
神はそれぞれの行いにふさわしく報いられるのです。
13-14 わが子よ。はちみつが食欲をそそるように、
知恵はあなたの心に
賢くなりたいという意欲を起こさせます。
それがあれば、
希望にあふれた将来が約束されます。
15-16 悪者よ。正しい人に手出しをしてはいけません。
正しい人は七度倒れても、
そのたびに起き上がることを知らないのですか。
しかし悪者は、一度つまずくと滅びるのです。
17 敵が苦しむのを喜んではいけません。
敵が失敗したからといって、
うれしがってはいけません。
18 そんなことをしたら主が心を痛め、
彼らを罰するのをやめるかもしれません。
19-20 悪人をうらやみ、
その財産を欲しがってはいけません。
悪人の最後は目に見えているからです。
21-22 わが子よ。主と王の前では注意深く行動しなさい。
過激な者たちとつき合ってはいけません。
彼らのいのちは短く、
思いもよらない災いに会うからです。
知恵のことば（2）
23 貧しい人を有罪とし、
金持ちを赦すのはよくありません。
24 悪者に向かって「無罪だ」と言う者は、
大ぜいの人にのろわれます。
25 逆に、悪者の罪をはっきりと指摘する人は、
だれからも感謝されます。
26 率直に答えてもらえることは、
ありがたいことだと思いなさい。
27 家を建てるのは、仕事がうまくいってからにしなさい。
28-29 無実の人について、
わざと不利な証言やうその証言をしてはいけません。
「いい機会だから、これまでの仕返しをしてやろう」と
考えてはいけません。
30-31 怠け者の畑のそばを通ったら、
いばらと雑草だらけで柵も壊れています。
32-33 これを見て学びました。
「もうちょっと眠り、もうちょっと昼寝し、
もうちょっと休もう。」
34 こんな生活をしていると、どんどん貧しくなり、
どうにもならなくなります。

22 A good name is more desirable than great riches;
to be esteemed is better than silver or gold.(A)
2 Rich and poor have this in common:
The Lord is the Maker of them all.(B)
5 In the paths of the wicked are snares and pitfalls,(G)
but those who would preserve their life stay far from them.
6 Start(H) children off on the way they should go,(I)
and even when they are old they will not turn from it.(J)
7 The rich rule over the poor,
and the borrower is slave to the lender.
10 Drive out the mocker, and out goes strife;
quarrels and insults are ended.(O)
11 One who loves a pure heart and who speaks with grace
will have the king for a friend.(P)
12 The eyes of the Lord keep watch over knowledge,
but he frustrates the words of the unfaithful.
13 The sluggard says, “There’s a lion outside!(Q)
I’ll be killed in the public square!”
14 The mouth of an adulterous woman is a deep pit;(R)
a man who is under the Lord’s wrath falls into it.(S)
15 Folly is bound up in the heart of a child,
but the rod of discipline will drive it far away.(T)
16 One who oppresses the poor to increase his wealth
and one who gives gifts to the rich—both come to poverty.
Thirty Sayings of the Wise
Saying 1
17 Pay attention(U) and turn your ear to the sayings of the wise;(V)
apply your heart to what I teach,(W)
18 for it is pleasing when you keep them in your heart
and have all of them ready on your lips.
19 So that your trust may be in the Lord,
I teach you today, even you.
20 Have I not written thirty sayings for you,
sayings of counsel and knowledge,
21 teaching you to be honest and to speak the truth,(X)
so that you bring back truthful reports
to those you serve?
Saying 2
22 Do not exploit the poor(Y) because they are poor
and do not crush the needy in court,(Z)
23 for the Lord will take up their case(AA)
and will exact life for life.(AB)
Saying 3
24 Do not make friends with a hot-tempered person,
do not associate with one easily angered,
25 or you may learn their ways
and get yourself ensnared.(AC)
Saying 4
26 Do not be one who shakes hands in pledge(AD)
or puts up security for debts;
27 if you lack the means to pay,
your very bed will be snatched from under you.(AE)

28 Do not move an ancient boundary stone(AF)
set up by your ancestors.

26 My son,(BE) give me your heart
and let your eyes delight in my ways,(BF)
27 for an adulterous woman is a deep pit,(BG)
and a wayward wife is a narrow well.
28 Like a bandit she lies in wait(BH)
and multiplies the unfaithful among men.

29 Who has woe? Who has sorrow?
Who has strife? Who has complaints?
Who has needless bruises? Who has bloodshot eyes?
30 Those who linger over wine,(BI)
who go to sample bowls of mixed wine.
31 Do not gaze at wine when it is red,
when it sparkles in the cup,
when it goes down smoothly!
32 In the end it bites like a snake
and poisons like a viper.
33 Your eyes will see strange sights,
and your mind will imagine confusing things.
34 You will be like one sleeping on the high seas,
lying on top of the rigging.
35 “They hit me,” you will say, “but I’m not hurt!
They beat me, but I don’t feel it!
When will I wake up
so I can find another drink?”(BJ)

24 Do not envy(BK) the wicked,
do not desire their company;
2 for their hearts plot violence,(BL)
and their lips talk about making trouble.(BM)

3 By wisdom a house is built,(BN)
and through understanding it is established;
4 through knowledge its rooms are filled
with rare and beautiful treasures.(BO)
Saying 22
5 The wise prevail through great power,
and those who have knowledge muster their strength.
6 Surely you need guidance to wage war,
and victory is won through many advisers.(BP)

7 Wisdom is too high for fools;
in the assembly at the gate they must not open their mouths.

8 Whoever plots evil
will be known as a schemer.
9 The schemes of folly are sin,
and people detest a mocker.

10 If you falter in a time of trouble,

11 Rescue those being led away to death;
hold back those staggering toward slaughter.(BR)
12 If you say, “But we knew nothing about this,”
does not he who weighs(BS) the heart perceive it?
Does not he who guards your life know it?

13 Eat honey, my son, for it is good;
honey from the comb is sweet to your taste.
14 Know also that wisdom is like honey for you:
If you find it, there is a future hope for you,
and your hope will not be cut off.(BV)

15 Do not lurk like a thief near the house of the righteous,
do not plunder their dwelling place;
16 for though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again,
but the wicked stumble when calamity strikes.(BW)

17 Do not gloat(BX) when your enemy falls;
when they stumble, do not let your heart rejoice,(BY)
18 or the Lord will see and disapprove
and turn his wrath away from them.(BZ)
Saying 29
19 Do not fret(CA) because of evildoers
or be envious of the wicked,
20 for the evildoer has no future hope,
and the lamp of the wicked will be snuffed out.(CB)
Saying 30
21 Fear the Lord and the king,(CC) my son,
and do not join with rebellious officials,
22 for those two will send sudden destruction(CD) on them,
and who knows what calamities they can bring?
Further Sayings of the Wise
23 These also are sayings of the wise:(CE)
To show partiality(CF) in judging is not good:(CG)
24 Whoever says to the guilty, “You are innocent,”(CH)
will be cursed by peoples and denounced by nations.
25 But it will go well with those who convict the guilty,
and rich blessing will come on them.
26 An honest answer
is like a kiss on the lips.
27 Put your outdoor work in order
and get your fields ready;
after that, build your house.
28 Do not testify against your neighbor without cause(CI)—
would you use your lips to mislead?
29 Do not say, “I’ll do to them as they have done to me;
I’ll pay them back for what they did.”(CJ)
30 I went past the field of a sluggard,(CK)
past the vineyard of someone who has no sense;
31 thorns had come up everywhere,
the ground was covered with weeds,
and the stone wall was in ruins.
32 I applied my heart to what I observed
and learned a lesson from what I saw:
33 A little sleep, a little slumber,
a little folding of the hands to rest(CL)—
34 and poverty will come on you like a thief
and scarcity like an armed man.(CM)

14 あなたがたの仲間に加わりたいという人がいたら、たとえ信仰の弱い人であっても、心を開いて迎え入れなさい。考えが違うからといって批判してはいけません。 2 偶像に供えられた肉を食べてもよいかどうかで議論してはいけません。あなたがたは、偶像に供えられた肉を食べても別に悪くはないと信じているかもしれません。しかし、ほかの人たちの信仰はもっと弱いのです。彼らは、偶像に供えられた肉を食べるのは悪いとして肉を食べず、むしろ野菜を食べるほうがよいと思っています。 3 肉を食べてもよいと思っている人は、食べない人を見下してはいけません。また、食べない人も食べる人を非難してはいけません。神はそのどちらをも受け入れて、ご自分の子どもとしてくださったからです。 4 どちらも神に仕えているのであって、人に仕えているわけではありません。神に対して責任を負うのであって、人に対して責任を負うのではありません。正しいか、まちがっているかは、神がその人に教えてくださるはずです。 5 ある人は、神を礼拝する特別な日として、クリスチャンもユダヤ教の祝祭日を守るべきだと考えています。しかし、他の人は、どの日もみな同様に神の日なのだから、いちいちそんな面倒なことをするのはまちがっている、と言います。こうした問題については、一人一人が自分で判断しなければなりません。 6 もし、主を礼拝するために特別な日を守っているなら、主をあがめようとしてすることなので、良いことなのです。偶像に供えた肉を食べる人についても、同じことが言えます。彼はその肉のことで主に感謝しているのですから、正しいのです。そんな肉には触れようともしない人もまた、主に喜んでいただこうと願うからそうするのであって、感謝しているのです。
7 私たちは、自分のために存在しているのではなく、主のために存在しているのです。 8 私たちは主のものであり、生きるにしても死ぬにしても主に従うのです。 9 キリストが死んで復活したのは、私たちが生きている時も死んでいる時も、キリストが私たちの主となられることでした。
10 あなたがたには、自分の兄弟（信仰を同じくする人）を批判したり、見下したりする資格はありません。だれもが神のさばきの座の前に立つことを、忘れてはなりません。 11 次のように書いてあるとおりです。
「主は言われる。わたしは生きている。
すべてのひざは、わたしの前にかがめられ、
すべての舌は、神に告白する。」（イザヤ45・23）
12 このように、一人一人が、神の前に申し開きをすることになります。
13 ですから、これからはもう批判し合うことのないようにしましょう。むしろ、人をつまずかせないようにすることを心がけましょう。兄弟が「悪いことだ」と信じていることを目の前で行って、彼をつまずかせてはいけません。 14 私が主イエスの権威に基づいて確信しているのは、それ自体汚れているものは何一つないということです。ですから、偶像に供えた肉を食べることは悪くありません。しかし、それを悪いと信じている人がいるなら、悪いことは避けるべきですから、その人は食べてはいけません。 15 兄弟があなたの食べる物のことで心を痛めているのに、平気でいるとしたら、愛によって行動しているとは言えません。あなたの食べる物のことで人を滅ぼしてはなりません。その人のためにも、キリストは死なれたのです。 16 たとえ自分の行為は正しいとわかっていても、人の批判の的になるようなことをしてはなりません。 17 私たちクリスチャンにとって大切なのは、何を食べるか、何を飲むかではなく、義と平安と聖霊から来る喜びとに満ちあふれているかどうかだからです。 18 このようにキリストに仕えてこそ、神に喜ばれ、また、人々にも喜ばれるのです。
19 こうして、教会においては平和をはかり、互いに助け合って成長するように努めましょう。 20 食べ物の問題で、神の働きを台なしにしてはなりません。肉そのものは悪くなくても、それが他人のつまずきとなるなら、肉を食べるのはよくないということを忘れないでください。 21 肉だけに限りません。飲酒でも、そのほか何でも、兄弟のつまずきになるようなことをしないのは正しい行いです。
22 自分のしていることが神の目から見て潔白だと思っていても、その確信は心にしまっておきなさい。正しいと思うことをして、それが罪を犯すことにならない人こそ幸せです。 23 しかし、「自分がしようとしていることは悪いことだ」と思いつつしている人は、してはなりません。悪いと思うことをするのは、すべて罪です。

The Weak and the Strong
14 Accept the one whose faith is weak,(A) without quarreling over disputable matters. 2 One person’s faith allows them to eat anything, but another, whose faith is weak, eats only vegetables.(B) 3 The one who eats everything must not treat with contempt(C) the one who does not, and the one who does not eat everything must not judge(D) the one who does, for God has accepted them. 4 Who are you to judge someone else’s servant?(E) To their own master, servants stand or fall. And they will stand, for the Lord is able to make them stand.
5 One person considers one day more sacred than another;(F) another considers every day alike. Each of them should be fully convinced in their own mind. 6 Whoever regards one day as special does so to the Lord. Whoever eats meat does so to the Lord, for they give thanks to God;(G) and whoever abstains does so to the Lord and gives thanks to God. 7 For none of us lives for ourselves alone,(H) and none of us dies for ourselves alone. 8 If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.(I) 9 For this very reason, Christ died and returned to life(J) so that he might be the Lord of both the dead and the living.(K)
10 You, then, why do you judge your brother or sister[a]? Or why do you treat them with contempt?(L) For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat.(M) 11 It is written:
“‘As surely as I live,’(N) says the Lord,
‘every knee will bow before me;
every tongue will acknowledge God.’”[b](O)
12 So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God.(P)
13 Therefore let us stop passing judgment(Q) on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in the way of a brother or sister.(R) 14 I am convinced, being fully persuaded in the Lord Jesus, that nothing is unclean in itself.(S) But if anyone regards something as unclean, then for that person it is unclean.(T) 15 If your brother or sister is distressed because of what you eat, you are no longer acting in love.(U) Do not by your eating destroy someone for whom Christ died.(V) 16 Therefore do not let what you know is good be spoken of as evil.(W) 17 For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking,(X) but of righteousness, peace(Y) and joy in the Holy Spirit,(Z) 18 because anyone who serves Christ in this way is pleasing to God and receives human approval.(AA)
19 Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace(AB) and to mutual edification.(AC) 20 Do not destroy the work of God for the sake of food.(AD) All food is clean,(AE) but it is wrong for a person to eat anything that causes someone else to stumble.(AF) 21 It is better not to eat meat or drink wine or to do anything else that will cause your brother or sister to fall.(AG)
22 So whatever you believe about these things keep between yourself and God. Blessed is the one who does not condemn(AH) himself by what he approves. 23 But whoever has doubts(AI) is condemned if they eat, because their eating is not from faith; and everything that does not come from faith is sin.[c]
