Jesus Predicts His Betrayal

¹⁸ “I am not referring to all of you;^(A) I know those I have chosen.^(B) But this is to fulfill this passage of Scripture:^(C) ‘He who shared my bread^(D) has turned^[a](E) against me.’^[b](F)

²⁵ If one person sins against another, God^[a] may mediate for the offender; but if anyone sins against the Lord, who will^(A) intercede^(B) for them?” His sons, however, did not listen to their father’s rebuke, for it was the Lord’s will to put them to death.

²⁵ to take over this apostolic ministry, which Judas left to go where he belongs.”

²⁶ Jesus answered, “It is the one to whom I will give this piece of bread when I have dipped it in the dish.” Then, dipping the piece of bread, he gave it to Judas,^(A) the son of Simon Iscariot.

¹¹ “But they refused to pay attention; stubbornly^(A) they turned their backs^(B) and covered their ears.^{(C) 12} They made their hearts as hard as flint^(D) and would not listen to the law or to the words that the Lord Almighty had sent by his Spirit through the earlier prophets.^(E) So the Lord Almighty was very angry.^(F)

¹³ “‘When I called, they did not listen;^(G) so when they called, I would not listen,’^(H) says the Lord Almighty.^{(I) 14} ‘I scattered^(J) them with a whirlwind^(K) among all the nations, where they were strangers. The land they left behind them was so desolate that no one traveled through it.^(L) This is how they made the pleasant land desolate.^(M)’”

¹³ “This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Go and tell^(A) the people of Judah and those living in Jerusalem, ‘Will you not learn a lesson^(B) and obey my words?’ declares the Lord. ¹⁴ ‘Jehonadab son of Rekab ordered his descendants not to drink wine and this command has been kept. To this day they do not drink wine, because they obey their forefather’s command.^(C) But I have spoken to you again and again,^(D) yet you have not obeyed^(E) me. ¹⁵ Again and again I sent all my servants the prophets^(F) to you. They said, “Each of you must turn^(G) from your wicked ways and reform^(H) your actions; do not follow other gods^(I) to serve them. Then you will live in the land^(J) I have given to you and your ancestors.” But you have not paid attention or listened^(K) to me. ¹⁶ The descendants of Jehonadab son of Rekab have carried out the command their forefather^(L) gave them, but these people have not obeyed me.’
