⁸ Just as ^(A)Jannes and Jambres ^(B)opposed Moses, so these men also oppose the truth, ^(C)men corrupted in mind and ^(D)disqualified regarding the faith. ⁹ But they will not get very far, for their folly will be plain to all, ^(E)as was that of those two men.

¹⁴ But the woman was given the two ^(A)wings of the great eagle so that she might fly from the serpent ^(B)into the wilderness, to the place where she is to be nourished ^(C)for a time, and times, and half a time. ¹⁵ The serpent poured water ^(D)like a river out of his mouth after the woman, to sweep her away with a flood. ¹⁶ But the earth came to the help of the woman, and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed the river that the dragon had poured from his mouth. ¹⁷ Then the dragon became furious with the woman and went off ^(E)to make war on the rest of ^(F)her offspring, ^(G)on those who keep the commandments of God and hold to ^(H)the testimony of Jesus. And he stood^[a] on the sand of the sea.

³ And I will grant authority to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy for ^(A)1,260 days, ^(B)clothed in sackcloth.”

⁴ These are ^(C)the two olive trees and the two lampstands that stand before the Lord of the earth. ⁵ And if anyone would harm them, ^(D)fire pours from their mouth and consumes their foes. If anyone would harm them, ^(E)this is how he is doomed to be killed. ⁶ They have the power ^(F)to shut the sky, that no rain may fall during the days of their prophesying, and they have power over the waters to turn them into blood and ^(G)to strike the earth with every kind of plague, as often as they desire. ⁷ And when they have finished their testimony, ^(H)the beast that rises from ^(I)the bottomless pit^{[a] (J)}will make war on them and conquer them and kill them, ⁸ and their dead bodies will lie in the street of the great city that symbolically^[b] is called ^(K)Sodom and ^(L)Egypt, where their Lord was crucified. ⁹ For three and a half days some from the peoples and tribes and languages and nations will gaze at their dead bodies and ^(M)refuse to let them be placed in a tomb, ¹⁰ and ^(N)those who dwell on the earth will rejoice over them and make merry and ^(O)exchange presents, because these two prophets ^(P)had been a torment to those who dwell on the earth. ¹¹ But after the three and a half days ^(Q)a breath of life from God entered them, and they stood up on their feet, and great fear fell on those who saw them.

⁸ And then ^(A)the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus ^(B)will kill with ^(C)the breath of his mouth and bring to nothing by ^(D)the appearance of his coming.

⁸ But Elymas the ^(A)magician (for that is the meaning of his name) ^(B)opposed them, seeking to turn ^(C)the proconsul away from the faith. ⁹ But Saul, who was also called Paul, ^(D)filled with the Holy Spirit, looked intently at him ¹⁰ and said, “You ^(E)son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, full of all deceit and ^(F)villainy, will you not stop ^(G)making crooked ^(H)the straight paths of the Lord? ¹¹ And now, behold, ^(I)the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you will be blind and unable to see the sun for a time.” Immediately mist and darkness fell upon him, and he went about seeking ^(J)people to lead him by the hand. ¹² Then the proconsul believed, when he saw what had occurred, for he was astonished at ^(K)the teaching of the Lord.

²³ Immediately ^(A)an angel of the Lord struck him down, because ^(B)he did not give God the glory, and he was eaten by worms and breathed his last.

²⁴ But ^(C)the word of God increased and multiplied.

Simon the Magician Believes

⁹ But there was a man named Simon, ^(A)who had previously practiced magic in the city and amazed the people of Samaria, ^(B)saying that he himself was somebody great. ¹⁰ They all paid attention to him, from the least to the greatest, saying, ^(C)“This man is the power of God that is called ^(D)Great.” ¹¹ And they paid attention to him because for a long time he had ^(E)amazed them with his magic. ¹² But when ^(F)they believed Philip as he preached good news ^(G)about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, ^(H)they were baptized, both men and women.

³⁹ but ^(A)if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them. You ^(B)might even be found opposing God!” So they took his advice,
