⁹ Once I was alive apart from the law; but when the commandment came, sin sprang to life and I died.

¹⁰ I found that the very commandment that was intended to bring life^(A) actually brought death.

²⁴ What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death?^(A)

²⁵ Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!^(A)

So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God’s law,^(B) but in my sinful nature^[a] a slave to the law of sin.^(C)
