² “Command the Israelites to put out of the camp everyone who has a defiling skin disease or a discharge and everyone who is unclean through contact with a corpse;^(A)

The Holiness of Priests

21 The Lord said to Moses, “Speak to the priests, the sons of Aaron, and say to them:

“No one shall defile himself for a dead person among his relatives,^(A)

⁴⁶ He shall remain unclean as long as he has the disease; he is unclean. He shall live alone; his dwelling shall be outside the camp.^(A)

¹⁴ But the Lord said to Moses, “If her father had but spit in her face, would she not bear her shame for seven days? Let her be shut out of the camp for seven days, and after that she may be brought in again.”^(A)

⁶ Now there were certain people who were unclean through touching a corpse, so that they could not keep the Passover on that day. They came before Moses and Aaron on that day^{(A) 7} and said to him, “Although we are unclean through touching a corpse, why must we be kept from presenting the Lord’s offering at its appointed time among the Israelites?” ⁸ Moses said to them, “Wait, so that I may hear what the Lord will command concerning you.”^(B)

⁹ The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, ¹⁰ “Speak to the Israelites, saying: Anyone of you or your descendants who is unclean through touching a corpse or is away on a journey shall still keep the Passover to the Lord.

¹⁹ Camp outside the camp seven days, whoever of you has killed any person or touched a corpse; purify yourselves, you and your captives, on the third and on the seventh day.

The Arameans Flee

³ Now there were four men with a defiling skin disease outside the city gate who said to one another, “Why should we sit here until we die?^(A)

⁸ “Guard against an outbreak of a defiling skin disease by being very careful; you shall carefully observe whatever the Levitical priests instruct you, just as I have commanded them.^{(A) 9} Remember what the Lord your God did to Miriam on your journey out of Egypt.^(B)

¹¹ Those who touch the dead body of any human being shall be unclean seven days.^{(A) 12} They shall purify themselves with the water on the third day and on the seventh day and so be clean, but if they do not purify themselves on the third day and on the seventh day, they will not become clean.^{(B) 13} All who touch a corpse, the body of a human being who has died, and do not purify themselves defile the tabernacle of the Lord; such persons shall be cut off from Israel. Since water for cleansing was not dashed on them, they remain unclean; their uncleanness is still on them.^(C)

¹⁴ “This is the law when someone dies in a tent: everyone who comes into the tent and everyone who is in the tent shall be unclean seven days. ¹⁵ And every open vessel with no cover fastened on it is unclean. ¹⁶ Whoever in the open field touches one who has been killed by a sword or who has died naturally,^[a] or a human bone, or a grave shall be unclean seven days.^(D)

² “Speak to the Israelites and say to them:

“When any man has a discharge from his member,^[a] his discharge makes him unclean.^{(A) 3} The uncleanness of his discharge is this: whether his member^[b] flows with its discharge or is stopped from discharging, he is unclean during the entire period his member^[c] flows or is stopped from discharging; this is his uncleanness.^{[d] 4} Every bed on which the one with the discharge lies shall be unclean, and everything on which he sits shall be unclean. ⁵ Anyone who touches his bed shall wash his clothes and bathe in water and be unclean until the evening. ⁶ All who sit on anything on which the one with the discharge has sat shall wash their clothes and bathe in water and be unclean until the evening. ⁷ All who touch the body of the one with the discharge shall wash their clothes and bathe in water and be unclean until the evening.^{(B) 8} If the one with the discharge spits on persons who are clean, then they shall wash their clothes and bathe in water and be unclean until the evening. ⁹ Any saddle on which the one with the discharge rides shall be unclean. ¹⁰ All who touch anything that was under him shall be unclean until the evening, and all who carry such a thing shall wash their clothes and bathe in water and be unclean until the evening.^{(C) 11} All those whom the one with the discharge touches without his having rinsed his hands in water shall wash their clothes and bathe in water and be unclean until the evening. ¹² Any clay vessel that the one with the discharge touches shall be broken, and every vessel of wood shall be rinsed in water.^(D)
