²² ‘However, if he pushes him suddenly ^(A)without enmity, or throws anything at him without lying in wait,

¹¹ then ^(A)you shall appoint cities to be cities of refuge for you, that the manslayer who kills any person accidentally may flee there.

¹³ However, ^(A)if he did not lie in wait, but God ^(B)delivered him into his hand, then ^(C)I will appoint for you a place where he may flee.

^5 (A)Then if the avenger of blood pursues him, they shall not deliver the slayer into his hand, because he struck his neighbor unintentionally, but did not hate him beforehand.

³ that the slayer who kills a person accidentally or unintentionally may flee there; and they shall be your refuge from the avenger of blood.

⁵ as when a man goes to the woods with his neighbor to cut timber, and his hand swings a stroke with the ax to cut down the tree, and the head slips from the handle and strikes his neighbor so that he dies—he shall flee to one of these cities and live;
