^23 (A)But Sihon would not allow Israel to pass through his territory. So Sihon gathered all his people together and ^[a]went out against Israel in the wilderness, ^(B)and he came to Jahaz and fought against Israel.

^20 (A)But Sihon did not trust Israel to pass through his territory. So Sihon gathered all his people together, encamped in Jahaz, and fought against Israel.

⁷ And when you came to this place, ^(A)Sihon king of Heshbon and Og king of Bashan came out against us to battle, and we conquered them. ⁸ We took their land and ^(B)gave it as an inheritance to the Reubenites, to the Gadites, and to half the tribe of Manasseh.

^30 (A)“But Sihon king of Heshbon would not let us pass through, for ^(B)the Lord your God ^(C)hardened his spirit and made his heart obstinate, that He might deliver him into your hand, as it is this day.

³¹ “And the Lord said to me, ‘See, I have begun to ^(D)give Sihon and his land over to you. Begin to possess it, that you may inherit his land.’ ^32 (E)Then Sihon and all his people came out against us to fight at Jahaz.

²¹ Thus Edom ^(A)refused to give Israel passage through his territory; so Israel ^(B)turned away from him.
