¹¹ Then Moses raised his arm and struck the rock twice with his staff. Water^(A) gushed out, and the community and their livestock drank.

⁴ and drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank from the spiritual rock^(A) that accompanied them, and that rock was Christ.

²⁰ because human anger^(A) does not produce the righteousness that God desires.

²⁴ Then Saul said to Samuel, “I have sinned.^(A) I violated^(B) the Lord’s command and your instructions. I was afraid^(C) of the men and so I gave in to them.

¹⁵ He led you through the vast and dreadful wilderness,^(A) that thirsty and waterless land, with its venomous snakes^(B) and scorpions. He brought you water out of hard rock.^(C)

⁶ I will stand there before you by the rock at Horeb.^(A) Strike^(B) the rock, and water^(C) will come out of it for the people to drink.” So Moses did this in the sight of the elders of Israel.

²⁰ and teaching^(A) them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you^(B) always, to the very end of the age.”^(C)

¹³ It was because you, the Levites,^(A) did not bring it up the first time that the Lord our God broke out in anger against us.^(B) We did not inquire of him about how to do it in the prescribed way.^(C)”
