²³ they certainly shall not ^(A)see the land of which I ^[a]swore to their fathers, nor shall any of those who rejected Me see it.

¹¹ ‘Surely none of the men who came up from Egypt, ^(A)from twenty years old and above, shall see the land of which I swore to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, because ^(B)they have not wholly followed Me,

¹⁵ So ^(A)I also raised My hand in an oath to them in the wilderness, that I would not bring them into the land which I had given them, ^(B)‘flowing with milk and honey,’ ^(C)the glory of all lands,

^64 (A)But among these there was not a man of those who were numbered by Moses and Aaron the priest when they numbered the children of Israel in the ^(B)Wilderness of Sinai.

¹⁷ Now with whom was He angry forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, ^(A)whose corpses fell in the wilderness? ¹⁸ And ^(B)to whom did He swear that they would not enter His rest, but to those who did not obey?

^35 (A)‘Surely not one of these men of this evil generation shall see that good land of which I ^[a]swore to give to your fathers, ^36 (B)except Caleb the son of Jephunneh; he shall see it, and to him and his children I am giving the land on which he walked, because ^(C)he ^[b]wholly followed the Lord.’ ^37 (D)The Lord was also angry with me for your sakes, saying, ‘Even you shall not go in there. ^38 (E)Joshua the son of Nun, ^(F)who stands before you, he shall go in there. ^(G)Encourage him, for he shall cause Israel to inherit it.

^39 (H)‘Moreover your little ones and your children, who ^(I)you say will be victims, who today ^(J)have no knowledge of good and evil, they shall go in there; to them I will give it, and they shall possess it. ^40 (K)But as for you, turn and take your journey into the wilderness by the Way of the Red Sea.’

⁴¹ “Then you answered and said to me, ^(L)‘We have sinned against the Lord; we will go up and fight, just as the Lord our God commanded us.’ And when everyone of you had girded on his weapons of war, you were ready to go up into the mountain.

⁴² “And the Lord said to me, ‘Tell them, ^(M)“Do not go up nor fight, for I am not among you; lest you be defeated before your enemies.” ’ ⁴³ So I spoke to you; yet you would not listen, but ^(N)rebelled against the command of the Lord, and ^(O)presumptuously^[c] went up into the mountain. ⁴⁴ And the Amorites who dwelt in that mountain came out against you and chased you ^(P)as bees do, and drove you back from Seir to Hormah. ⁴⁵ Then you returned and wept before the Lord, but the Lord would not listen to your voice nor give ear to you.

³ For we who have believed do enter that rest, as He has said:

although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
