¹⁹ Also they spoke of his good deeds in my presence and reported my words to him. And Tobiah sent letters to make me afraid.

^5 (A)They are from the world; therefore they speak from the world, and ^(B)the world listens to them.

¹⁸ So they called them and charged them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus. ¹⁹ But Peter and John answered them, ^(A)“Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, you must judge, ²⁰ for ^(B)we cannot but speak of what ^(C)we have seen and heard.” ²¹ And when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding no way to punish them, ^(D)because of the people, for all were praising God ^(E)for what had happened.

^19 (A)If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because ^(B)you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.

⁷ The world cannot hate you, but ^(A)it hates me because I testify about it that ^(B)its works are evil.

¹⁰ “Thus shall you speak to Hezekiah king of Judah: ^(A)‘Do not let your God in whom you trust deceive you by promising that Jerusalem will not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria. ¹¹ Behold, you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands, devoting them to destruction. And shall you be delivered? ^12 (B)Have the gods of the nations delivered them, the nations that my fathers destroyed, ^(C)Gozan, ^(D)Haran, Rezeph, and the people of Eden who were in Telassar? ^13 (E)Where is the king of Hamath, the king of Arpad, the king of the city of Sepharvaim, the king of Hena, or the king of Ivvah?’”

Hezekiah's Prayer for Deliverance

¹⁴ Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers, and read it; and Hezekiah went up to the house of the Lord, and spread it before the Lord.

¹³ For this purpose he was hired, that I should be afraid and act in this way and sin, and so they could give me a bad name in order to taunt me.

⁹ For they all wanted to frighten us, thinking, “Their hands will drop from the work, and it will not be done.” But now, O God,^[a] strengthen my hands.
