⁸ and said to them, “We, as far as we are able, ^(A)have bought back our Jewish brothers who have been sold to the nations, but you even sell your brothers that they may be sold to us!” They were silent and could not find a word to say.

Redeeming a Poor Man

⁴⁷ “If a stranger or sojourner with you becomes rich, and ^(A)your brother beside him becomes poor and sells himself to the stranger or sojourner with you or to a member of the stranger's clan, ⁴⁸ then after he is sold he may be redeemed. One of his brothers may redeem him, ⁴⁹ or his uncle or his cousin may ^(B)redeem him, or a close relative from his clan may redeem him. Or if he ^(C)grows rich he may redeem himself.

¹² For if the readiness is there, it is acceptable ^(A)according to what a person has, not according to what he does not have.

¹¹ And so by your knowledge this weak person is ^(A)destroyed, the brother for whom Christ died.

¹⁵ For if your brother is grieved by what you eat, ^(A)you are no longer walking in love. ^(B)By what you eat, do not destroy the one for whom Christ died.

¹⁹ Now we know that whatever ^(A)the law says it speaks to those who are under the law, ^(B)so that every mouth may be stopped, and ^(C)the whole world may be held accountable to God.

^29 (A)For to everyone who has will more be given, and he will have an abundance. But from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.

¹⁵ To one he gave five ^(A)talents,^[a] to another two, to another one, ^(B)to each according to his ability. Then he ^(C)went away.

¹² And he said to him, ^(A)‘Friend, how did you get in here without a wedding garment?’ And he was speechless.
