20 When evening came, Jesus was reclining at the table with the Twelve.[a]

One Will Betray Jesus

21 As they were eating, he said, “Amen I tell you: One of you will betray me.”

22 They were very sad and began to say to him one after another, “Surely, not I, Lord?”

23 He replied, “The one who dipped his hand in the bowl with me will betray me. 24 The Son of Man is going just as it is written about him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would be better for that man if he had not been born.”

25 Judas, who betrayed him, replied, “Surely, not I, Rabbi?”

He said to him, “Yes, you are the one.”[b]

23 Jesus replied, “The one who has dipped his hand into the bowl with me will betray me.(B) 24 The Son of Man will go just as it is written about him.(C) But woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born.”

25 Then Judas, the one who would betray him,(D) said, “Surely you don’t mean me, Rabbi?”(E)

Jesus answered, “You have said so.”
