The Birth of Jesus Christ

¹⁸ Now the birth of ^(A)Jesus Christ^[a] took place in this way. ^(B)When his mother Mary had been betrothed^[b] to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child ^(C)from the Holy Spirit.

¹⁶ And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, ^(A)the heavens were opened to him,^[a] and he ^(B)saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him;

The Temptation of Jesus

4 ^(A)Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness ^(B)to be tempted by the devil.

²⁸ But if it is ^(A)by the Spirit of God that I cast out demons, then ^(B)the kingdom of God has come upon you. ²⁹ Or ^(C)how can someone enter a strong man's house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man? Then indeed ^(D)he may plunder his house. ^30 (E)Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters. ^31 (F)Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven people, but ^(G)the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. ³² And whoever speaks a word ^(H)against the Son of Man ^(I)will be forgiven, but ^(J)whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in ^(K)this age or in the age to come.

^19 (A)Go therefore and ^(B)make disciples of ^(C)all nations, ^(D)baptizing them ^(E)in^{[a] (F)}the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
