³¹ And the demons begged him, saying, “If you cast us out, send us away into the herd of pigs.”

The Thousand Years

20 Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, ^(A)holding in his hand the key to ^(B)the bottomless pit^[a] and a great chain. ² And he seized ^(C)the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan, and ^(D)bound him for a thousand years,

³⁰ Jesus then asked him, “What is your name?” And he said, ^(A)“Legion,” for many demons had entered him. ³¹ And they begged him not to command them to depart into ^(B)the abyss. ³² Now a large herd of pigs was feeding there on the hillside, and they begged him to let them enter these. So he gave them permission. ³³ Then the demons came out of the man and entered the pigs, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into ^(C)the lake and drowned.

¹² and they begged him, saying, “Send us to the pigs; let us enter them.”

¹² Therefore, ^(A)rejoice, O heavens and you who dwell in them! But ^(B)woe to you, O earth and sea, for the devil has come down to you in great wrath, because ^(C)he knows that his time is short!”

⁷ And ^(A)crying out with a loud voice, he said, “What have you to do with me, Jesus, ^(B)Son of ^(C)the Most High God? ^(D)I adjure you by God, do not torment me.”
