^21 (A)Going on from there, He saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets. He called them,

¹⁷ James the son of Zebedee and John the brother of James, to whom He gave the name Boanerges, that is, “Sons of Thunder”;

² Now the names of the twelve apostles are these: first, Simon, ^(A)who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother;

¹⁰ and so also were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid. ^(A)From now on you will catch men.” ¹¹ So when they had brought their boats to land, ^(B)they ^[a]forsook all and followed Him.

¹⁹ When He had gone a little farther from there, He saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the boat mending their nets. ²⁰ And immediately He called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants, and went after Him.

² Then he killed James ^(A)the brother of John with the sword.

² Simon Peter, ^(A)Thomas called the Twin, ^(B)Nathanael of ^(C)Cana in Galilee, ^(D)the sons of Zebedee, and two others of His disciples were together.

³⁷ And He permitted no one to follow Him except Peter, James, and John the brother of James.

³⁷ And He took with Him Peter and ^(A)the two sons of Zebedee, and He began to be sorrowful and deeply distressed.

Greatness Is Serving^(A)

^20 (B)Then the mother of ^(C)Zebedee’s sons came to Him with her sons, kneeling down and asking something from Him.

²¹ And He said to her, “What do you wish?”

She said to Him, “Grant that these two sons of mine ^(D)may sit, one on Your right hand and the other on the left, in Your kingdom.”
