^11 (A)I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. ^(B)He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit ^[a]and fire.

⁴ When ^(A)the Lord has washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion, and purged the ^[a]blood of Jerusalem from her midst, by the spirit of judgment and by the spirit of burning,

¹⁶ John answered, saying to all, ^(A)“I indeed baptize you with water; but One mightier than I is coming, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose. He will ^(B)baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

^5 (A)for John truly baptized with water, ^(B)but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”

² And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and ^(A)it filled the whole house where they were sitting. ³ Then there appeared to them ^[a]divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. ⁴ And ^(B)they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began ^(C)to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

^5 (A)not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through ^(B)the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit,

⁷ And he preached, saying, ^(A)“There comes One after me who is mightier than I, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to stoop down and loose. ^8 (B)I indeed baptized you with water, but He will baptize you ^(C)with the Holy Spirit.”
