²⁹ and then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on his head. They put a staff in his right hand. Then they knelt in front of him and mocked him. “Hail, king of the Jews!” they said.^(A)

¹⁹ and will hand him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged^(A) and crucified.^(B) On the third day^(C) he will be raised to life!”^(D)

¹⁸ And they began to call out to him, “Hail, king of the Jews!”^(A)

² fixing our eyes on Jesus,^(A) the pioneer^(B) and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross,^(C) scorning its shame,^(D) and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.^{(E) 3} Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary^(F) and lose heart.

² The soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on his head. They clothed him in a purple robe ³ and went up to him again and again, saying, “Hail, king of the Jews!”^(A) And they slapped him in the face.^(B)

³⁶ The soldiers also came up and mocked him.^(A) They offered him wine vinegar^{(B) 37} and said, “If you are the king of the Jews,^(C) save yourself.”

³⁷ Above his head they placed the written charge against him: this is jesus, the king of the jews.

⁴⁹ Going at once to Jesus, Judas said, “Greetings, Rabbi!”^(A) and kissed him.
