⁵² Then Jesus said to him, “Put your sword back into its place, for all who take the sword will die by the sword.^(A)

Here is a call for the endurance and faith of the saints.^(A)

¹⁹ Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave room for the wrath of God,^[a] for it is written, “Vengeance is mine; I will repay, says the Lord.”^(A)

²¹ For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you should follow in his steps.^(A)

²³ When he was abused, he did not return abuse; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but he entrusted himself to the one who judges justly.^(B)

⁹ Do not repay evil for evil or abuse for abuse, but, on the contrary, repay with a blessing. It is for this that you were called—that you might inherit a blessing.^(A)

¹⁵ See that none of you repays evil for evil, but always seek to do good to one another and to all.^(A)

¹¹ To the present hour we are hungry and thirsty, we are naked and beaten and homeless,^{(A) 12} and we grow weary from the work of our own hands. When reviled, we bless; when persecuted, we endure;^(B)

³⁴ For this reason I send you prophets, sages, and scribes, some of whom you will kill and crucify, and some you will flog in your synagogues and pursue from town to town, ³⁵ so that upon you may come all the righteous blood shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah son of Barachiah, whom you murdered between the sanctuary and the altar. ³⁶ Truly I tell you, all this will come upon this generation.
