³⁷ He said to him, “ ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’^(A)

²⁹ Jesus answered, “The first is, ‘Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God, the Lord is one;^{(A) 30} you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’

²⁷ He answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind and your neighbor as yourself.”^(A)

⁵ You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.^(A)

³³ and ‘to love him with all the heart and with all the understanding and with all the strength’ and ‘to love one’s neighbor as oneself’—this is much more important than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.”^(A)

The Essence of the Law

¹² “So now, O Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you? Only to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul,^(A)

⁶ “Moreover, the Lord your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your descendants, so that you will love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, in order that you may live.^(A)

² By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. ³ For the love of God is this, that we obey his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome,^{(A) 4} for whatever is born of God conquers the world. And this is the victory that conquers the world, our faith.^{(B) 5} Who is it who conquers the world but the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?^(C)

¹⁷ and he adds,

⁷ For this reason the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law—indeed, it cannot,^(A)
