²⁵ When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astounded and said, “Then who can be saved?”

¹³ For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”^(A)

²² And if those days had not been cut short, no one would be saved, but for the sake of the elect those days will be cut short.^(A)

⁵ So, too, at the present time there is a remnant chosen by grace. ⁶ But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works, otherwise grace would no longer be grace.^[a](A)

⁷ What then? Israel has not achieved what it was pursuing. The elect have achieved it, but the rest were hardened,^(B)

²³ Someone asked him, “Lord, will only a few be saved?” He said to them, ²⁴ “Strive to enter through the narrow door, for many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able.^(A)

²⁰ And if the Lord had not cut short those days, no one would be saved, but for the sake of the elect, whom he chose, he has cut short those days.
