10 ^(A)And he called to him his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every disease and every affliction.

Jesus Sends Out the Twelve Apostles

9 ^(A)And he called the twelve together and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases, ^2 (B)and he sent them out to ^(C)proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal. ^3 (D)And he said to them, “Take nothing for your journey, ^(E)no staff, nor bag, nor bread, nor money; and do not have two tunics.^{[a] 4} And whatever house you enter, stay there, and from there depart. ⁵ And wherever they do not receive you, when you leave that town ^(F)shake off the dust from your feet ^(G)as a testimony ^(H)against them.” ^6 (I)And they departed and went through the villages, preaching the gospel and healing everywhere.

^13 (A)And he went up on the mountain and called to him those ^(B)whom he desired, and they came to him. ^14 (C)And he appointed twelve (whom he also named apostles) so that they might be with him and he might send them out to preach ^15 (D)and have authority to cast out demons.

Jesus Sends Out the Twelve Apostles

^7 (A)And he called the twelve and began to send them out two by two, and gave them authority over the unclean spirits. ⁸ He charged them to take nothing for their journey except a staff—no bread, no bag, no money in their belts— ⁹ but to ^(B)wear sandals and not put on two tunics.^{[a] 10} And he said to them, “Whenever you enter a house, stay there until you depart from there. ¹¹ And if any place will not receive you and they will not listen to you, when you leave, ^(C)shake off the dust that is on your feet ^(D)as a testimony against them.” ^12 (E)So they went out and ^(F)proclaimed ^(G)that people should repent. ^13 (H)And they cast out many demons and ^(I)anointed with oil many who were sick and healed them.

¹⁹ Behold, I have given you authority ^(A)to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of ^(B)the enemy, and ^(C)nothing shall hurt you.

¹⁷ And ^(A)these signs will accompany those who believe: ^(B)in my name they will cast out demons; ^(C)they will speak in new tongues; ^18 (D)they will pick up serpents with their hands; and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; ^(E)they will lay their hands ^(F)on the sick, and they will recover.”

⁴⁹ And behold, I am sending ^(A)the promise of my Father upon you. But stay in the city until you ^(B)are clothed with ^(C)power ^(D)from on high.”

⁸ But you will receive ^(A)power ^(B)when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and ^(C)you will be ^(D)my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and ^(E)Samaria, and ^(F)to the end of the earth.”

²⁷ John answered, ^(A)“A person cannot receive even one thing ^(B)unless it is given him ^(C)from heaven.
