²² All this took place to fulfill what had been spoken by the Lord through the prophet:

⁴⁴ Then he said to them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you—that everything written about me in the law of Moses, the prophets, and the psalms must be fulfilled.”^(A)

²³ There he made his home in a town called Nazareth, so that what had been spoken through the prophets might be fulfilled, “He will be called a Nazarene.”^[a](A)

¹⁵ He said, “Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, who with his hand has fulfilled what he promised with his mouth to my father David, saying,^(A)

³⁵ This was to fulfill what had been spoken through the prophet:^[a]

²⁴ the covenant that you kept for your servant my father David as you declared to him; you promised with your mouth and have this day fulfilled with your hand.

¹⁸ In this way God fulfilled what he had foretold through all the prophets, that his Messiah^[a] would suffer.^(A)

³⁶ These things occurred so that the scripture might be fulfilled, “None of his bones shall be broken.”^{(A) 37} And again another passage of scripture says, “They will look on the one whom they have pierced.”^(B)

⁹ This was to fulfill the word that he had spoken, “I did not lose a single one of those whom you gave me.”^(A)

¹² While I was with them, I protected them in your name that^[a] you have given me. I guarded them, and not one of them was lost except the one destined to be lost,^[b] so that the scripture might be fulfilled.^(A)
