Take Up Your Cross

34 Summoning the crowd along with His disciples, He said to them, “If anyone wants to be My follower, he must deny himself,(A) take up his cross,(B) and follow Me.(C) 35 For whoever wants to save(D) his life will lose it,(E) but whoever loses(F) his life(G) because of Me(H) and the gospel(I) will save it.(J) 36 For what does it benefit(K) a man to gain(L) the whole world(M) yet lose(N) his life?(O) 37 What can a man give in exchange for his life?(P) 38 For whoever is ashamed(Q) of Me and of My words(R) in this adulterous and sinful(S) generation,(T) the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when He comes in the glory(U) of His Father(V) with the holy(W) angels.”(X)

Then He said to them, “I assure you:(Y) There are some standing here who will not taste death(Z) until they see the kingdom of God come in power.”(AA)

34 After calling the crowd together with his disciples, Jesus said to them, “All who want to come after me must say no to themselves, take up their cross, and follow me. 35 All who want to save their lives will lose them. But all who lose their lives because of me and because of the good news will save them. 36 Why would people gain the whole world but lose their lives? 37 What will people give in exchange for their lives? 38 Whoever is ashamed of me and my words in this unfaithful and sinful generation, the Human One[a] will be ashamed of that person when he comes in the Father’s glory with the holy angels.” Jesus continued, “I assure you that some standing here won’t die before they see God’s kingdom arrive in power.”
