14 And the disciples had forgotten to take bread, and did not have more than one loaf in the boat with them. 15 And He was giving orders to them, saying, (A)Watch out! Beware of the [a]leaven of the Pharisees, and the leaven of (B)Herod.” 16 And they began to discuss with one another the fact that they had no bread. 17 And Jesus, aware of this, *said to them, “Why are you discussing the fact that you have no bread? (C)Do you not yet comprehend or understand? Do you still have your heart [b]hardened? 18 (D)Having eyes, do you not see? And having ears, do you not hear? And do you not remember, 19 when I broke (E)the five loaves for the five thousand, how many (F)baskets full of broken pieces you picked up?” They *said to Him, “Twelve.” 20 “When I broke (G)the seven for the four thousand, how many large (H)baskets full of broken pieces did you pick up?” And they *said to Him, “Seven.” 21 And He was saying to them, (I)Do you not yet understand?”

22 And they *came to (J)Bethsaida. And some people *brought a man who was blind to [c]Jesus and *begged Him to (K)touch him. 23 Taking the man who was blind by the hand, He (L)brought him out of the village; and after (M)spitting in his eyes and (N)laying His hands on him, He asked him, “Do you see anything?” 24 And he [d]looked up and said, “I see people, for I see them like trees, walking around.” 25 Then again He laid His hands on his eyes; and he looked intently and was restored, and began to see everything clearly. 26 And He sent him to his home, saying, “Do not even enter (O)the village.”

Peter’s Confession of Christ

27 (P)Jesus went out, along with His disciples, to the villages of (Q)Caesarea Philippi; and on the way He questioned His disciples, saying to them, “Who do people say that I am?” 28 (R)They told Him, saying, “John the Baptist; and others say Elijah; and others, one of the prophets.” 29 And He continued questioning them: “But who do you say that I am?” (S)Peter answered and *said to Him, “You are the [e]Christ.” 30 And (T)He [f]warned them to tell no one about Him.

31 (U)And He began to teach them that (V)the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise from the dead. 32 And He was stating the matter (W)plainly. And Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him. 33 But turning around and seeing His disciples, He rebuked Peter and *said, “Get behind Me, (X)Satan; for you are not setting your mind on [g]God’s purposes, but on man’s.”

34 And He summoned the crowd together with His disciples, and said to them, “If anyone wants to come after Me, he must deny himself, (Y)take up his cross, and follow Me. 35 For (Z)whoever wants to save his [h]life will lose it, but whoever loses his [i]life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it. 36 For what does it benefit a person to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul? 37 For what could a person give in exchange for his soul? 38 For (AA)whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, (AB)the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when He (AC)comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.”

Peter Says Jesus is The Christ

18 (A)And it happened that while He was (B)praying alone, the disciples were with Him, and He questioned them, saying, “Who do the [a]people say that I am?” 19 They answered and said, “John the Baptist, and others say Elijah; but others, that one of the prophets of old has risen.” 20 And He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” And Peter answered and said, “(C)The [b]Christ of God.” 21 But He [c](D)warned them and instructed them not to tell this to anyone, 22 (E)saying, (F)The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed and be raised on the third day.”

23 And He was saying to them all, (G)If anyone wants to come after Me, he must deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow Me. 24 For (H)whoever wants to save his [d]life will lose it, but whoever loses his [e]life for My sake, this is the one who will save it. 25 For what good does it do a person if he gains the whole world, but (I)loses or forfeits himself? 26 (J)For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when He comes in His glory and the glory of the Father and the holy angels. 27 But I say to you truthfully, (K)there are some of those standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God.”

Thanksgiving for God’s Justice.

For the music director; on [a]Muth-labben. A Psalm of David.

I will give thanks to the Lord with all (A)my heart;
I will (B)tell of all Your [b]wonders.
I will rejoice and be (C)jubilant in You;
I will (D)sing praise to Your name, O (E)Most High.

When my enemies turn back,
They stumble and (F)perish before You.
For You have (G)maintained [c]my just cause;
You have sat on the throne [d](H)judging righteously.
You have (I)rebuked the nations, You have eliminated the wicked;
You have (J)wiped out their name forever and ever.
[e]The enemy has come to an end in everlasting ruins,
And You have uprooted the cities;
The very (K)memory of them has perished.

But the (L)Lord [f]sits as King forever;
He has established His (M)throne for judgment,
And He will (N)judge the world in righteousness;
He will execute judgment for the peoples fairly.
[g]The Lord will also be a (O)stronghold for the oppressed,
A stronghold in times of trouble;
10 And [h]those who (P)know Your name will put their trust in You,
For You, Lord, have not (Q)abandoned those who seek You.

11 Sing praises to the Lord, who (R)dwells in Zion;
(S)Declare His deeds among the peoples.
12 For (T)He who [i]requires blood remembers them;
He does not forget (U)the cry of the needy.
