Wind and Wave Obey Jesus^(A)

^35 (B)On the same day, when evening had come, He said to them, “Let us cross over to the other side.” ³⁶ Now when they had left the multitude, they took Him along in the boat as He was. And other little boats were also with Him. ³⁷ And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. ³⁸ But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, ^(C)“Teacher, ^(D)do You not care that we are perishing?”

³⁹ Then He arose and ^(E)rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, ^(F)“Peace,^[a] be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm.

A Samaritan Village Rejects the Savior

⁵¹ Now it came to pass, when the time had come for ^(A)Him to be received up, that He steadfastly set His face to go to Jerusalem, ⁵² and sent messengers before His face. And as they went, they entered a village of the Samaritans, to prepare for Him. ⁵³ But ^(B)they did not receive Him, because His face was set for the journey to Jerusalem. ⁵⁴ And when His disciples ^(C)James and John saw this, they said, “Lord, do You want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them, ^[a]just as ^(D)Elijah did?”

⁵⁵ But He turned and rebuked them, ^[b]and said, “You do not know what manner of ^(E)spirit you are of.

Woe to the Scribes and Pharisees^(A)

23 Then Jesus spoke to the multitudes and to His disciples, ² saying: ^(B)“The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. ³ Therefore whatever they tell you ^[a]to observe, that observe and do, but do not do according to their works; for ^(C)they say, and do not do.

The Humbled and Exalted Christ

^5 (A)Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, ⁶ who, ^(B)being in the form of God, did not consider it ^[a]robbery to be equal with God, ^7 (C)but ^[b]made Himself of no reputation, taking the form ^(D)of a bondservant, and ^(E)coming in the likeness of men. ⁸ And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and ^(F)became ^(G)obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.
