^39 (A)And when the centurion, who stood facing him, saw that in this way he^[a] breathed his last, he said, ^(B)“Truly this man was the Son^[b] of God!”

^54 (A)When the centurion and those who were with him, ^(B)keeping watch over Jesus, saw the earthquake and what took place, they were filled with awe and said, ^(C)“Truly this was the Son^[a] of God!”

⁴⁷ Now ^(A)when the centurion saw what had taken place, ^(B)he praised God, saying, “Certainly this man was innocent!” ⁴⁸ And all the crowds that had assembled for this spectacle, when they saw what had taken place, returned home ^(C)beating their breasts.

^43 (A)He trusts in God; let God deliver him now, if he desires him. For he said, ‘I am the Son of God.’”

Paul Sails for Rome

27 And when it was decided ^(A)that ^(B)we should sail for Italy, they delivered Paul and some other prisoners to a centurion of the Augustan ^(C)Cohort named Julius. ² And embarking in a ship of Adramyttium, which was about to sail to the ports along the coast of Asia, we put to sea, accompanied by ^(D)Aristarchus, a Macedonian from Thessalonica. ³ The next day we put in at Sidon. And ^(E)Julius ^(F)treated Paul kindly and ^(G)gave him leave to go to his friends and be cared for.

Peter and Cornelius

10 At Caesarea there was a man named Cornelius, a centurion of ^(A)what was known as the Italian Cohort,

⁴⁴ Pilate was surprised to hear that he should have already died.^[a] And summoning ^(A)the centurion, he asked him whether he was already dead. ⁴⁵ And when he learned from ^(B)the centurion that he was dead, he granted the corpse to Joseph.

The Faith of a Centurion

^5 (A)When he had entered Capernaum, a centurion came forward to him, appealing to him, ⁶ “Lord, my servant is lying paralyzed at home, suffering terribly.” ⁷ And he said to him, “I will come and heal him.” ⁸ But the centurion replied, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof, but ^(B)only say the word, and my servant will be healed. ⁹ For I too am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. And I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes, and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes, and to my servant,^[a] ‘Do this,’ and he does it.” ¹⁰ When Jesus heard this, ^(C)he marveled and said to those who followed him, “Truly, I tell you, with ^(D)no one in Israel^[b] have I found such faith.

⁴³ But the centurion, ^(A)wishing to save Paul, kept them from carrying out their plan. He ordered those who could swim to jump overboard first and make for the land,
