^65 (A)And some began ^(B)to spit on him and ^(C)to cover his face and to strike him, saying to him, “Prophesy!” And the guards received him ^(D)with blows.

⁶⁷ Then ^(A)they spit in his face ^(B)and ^(C)struck him. And some slapped him, ⁶⁸ saying, “Prophesy to us, you ^(D)Christ! Who is it that struck you?”

² And the high priest ^(A)Ananias commanded those who stood by him ^(B)to strike him on the mouth.

³ They came up to him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” and struck him with their hands.

Jesus Is Mocked

^63 (A)Now the men who were holding Jesus in custody were mocking him as they beat him. ^64 (B)They also blindfolded him and kept asking him, ^(C)“Prophesy! ^(D)Who is it that struck you?”

¹⁹ And they were striking his head with a reed and ^(A)spitting on him and ^(B)kneeling down in homage to him.

²² When he had said these things, one of the officers standing by struck Jesus with his hand, saying, ^(A)“Is that how you answer the high priest?”

² looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, ^(A)who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising ^(B)the shame, and ^(C)is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

³⁴ And they will ^(A)mock him and ^(B)spit on him, and flog him and kill him. And ^(C)after three days he will rise.”
