³¹ The second is this, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”^(A)

Love for One Another

⁸ Owe no one anything, except to love one another, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law.^{(A) 9} The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery; you shall not murder; you shall not steal; you shall not covet,” and any other commandment, are summed up in this word, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”^(B)

³⁹ And a second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’^(A)

²⁷ He answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind and your neighbor as yourself.”^(A)

¹⁸ You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against any of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord.^(A)

⁴ Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant^{(A) 5} or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable; it keeps no record of wrongs;^{(B) 6} it does not rejoice in wrongdoing but rejoices in the truth.^{(C) 7} It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.^(D)

⁸ Love never ends. But as for prophecies, they will come to an end; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will come to an end.

The Golden Rule

¹² “In everything do to others as you would have them do to you, for this is the Law and the Prophets.^(A)

¹⁴ For the whole law is summed up in a single commandment, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”^(A)

²¹ The commandment we have from him is this: those who love God must love their brothers and sisters also.

¹⁸ He said to him, “Which ones?” And Jesus said, “You shall not murder. You shall not commit adultery. You shall not steal. You shall not bear false witness.^{(A) 19} Honor your father and mother. Also, you shall love your neighbor as yourself.”^(B)
