²³ Just then a man in their synagogue who was possessed by an impure spirit cried out,

²⁵ When Jesus saw that a crowd was running to the scene,^(A) he rebuked the impure spirit. “You deaf and mute spirit,” he said, “I command you, come out of him and never enter him again.”

³³ In the synagogue there was a man possessed by a demon, an impure spirit. He cried out at the top of his voice, ³⁴ “Go away! What do you want with us,^(A) Jesus of Nazareth?^(B) Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are^(C)—the Holy One of God!”^(D)

³⁵ “Be quiet!” Jesus said sternly.^(E) “Come out of him!” Then the demon threw the man down before them all and came out without injuring him.

³⁶ All the people were amazed^(F) and said to each other, “What words these are! With authority^(G) and power he gives orders to impure spirits and they come out!” ³⁷ And the news about him spread throughout the surrounding area.^(H)

²⁵ In fact, as soon as she heard about him, a woman whose little daughter was possessed by an impure spirit^(A) came and fell at his feet.

² When Jesus got out of the boat,^(A) a man with an impure spirit^(B) came from the tombs to meet him.

³⁴ and Jesus healed many who had various diseases.^(A) He also drove out many demons, but he would not let the demons speak because they knew who he was.^(B)

⁴³ “When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it.
